Just seen the fabulous Self Esteem. If you get a chance to see this show take it. Joyous.
Howling at this artist’s rendering of the Tate brothers’ court hearing from The Times (it’s credited to AP). This would be my strategy as a courtroom artist: always show them facing the other way.
Getting Ronaldo flashbacks from the new Charlie Kirk statue. But Ronaldo still holds the title for Worst Ever Immortalisation in Bronze, I think.
Life hack: have your dog roll in something absolutely vile first thing in the morning and the rest of the day should be on an upward curve. (Apart from the steep dip when you have to de-vile the dog).
Just back from seeing Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Been gone for longer than I anticipated, but the faithful hound still recognised me.
Harrop Tarn, on the way back down from Ullscarf. Expedition morale dented by the discovery that “somebody”* hadn’t packed the thermos flask. The Truth and Reconciliation Committee has advised that the official history should employ the phrase “the flask failed to find its way into the backpack”.
That feeling when your argument isn’t working but you just can’t think of a better one.
I was struck by this, painted on commission to commemorate Dorothy Hale, who jumped to her death from her New York apartment. One hopes it didn’t ever reach Hale’s mother.
If Virginia Woolf was still in copyright I'm fairly sure that the title of this film would be two words shorter.
Ha Makom, which is very big and very, very red. (And a little bit Doctor Who to my mind)
Clean up in aisle five! (detail of Kapoor’s sculpture Ritual Expiation).
To the Anish Kapoor show at the Hayward. But why is it that a hyperbolic paraboloid mirror (a Pringle to you and me) reflects without reversing? (Zoom in on the QEH sign)
Just been to the M.C. Escher show at Somerset House. I think he would have found the architecture sympathetic (if a little conventional).
Utterly mystified by this Private Eye cartoon. Not “smart” to watch cowboy films? The mate’s walked out because he’s boring on about the television? Missing caption?
Rare example of a rhetorical question headline to which the answer "Well, duh, YES! Obviously!!"
This mischievous little test occurs at the start of The Wallace Collection’s exhibition Winston Churchill: The Painter. Which also includes this display of his essential tools: paints, brushes, and a split of Pol Roger.
One of these floral still lives is painted by William Nicholson, while the other is by Winston Churchill. Can you tell which is which? (Answer in the alt text).
High Rigg. Not the most arduous of Wainwrights (apart from a steep little pull at the start). But a lovely five mile circular, with a bit of everything. Below, the view south to Thirlmere, Helvellyn under a veil of rain to the left, Raven Crag on the right waiting for the sunshine to reach it.
