Not technically silent because at release, it would have had a live narrator, but the script has been lost, so... it's silent now. A Page of Madness contains some phenomenal film experimentation.

From "The Court and the Courtesan," a story told by a Wife of Bath inspired character who grew up in a "not a brothel but is totally a brothel" hotel. I don't know if it's my favorite passage, but it has stuck with me because of my partner's reaction to the insult.

Text from a story titled "The Court and the Courtesan." It reads:

The final lesson was this: protect your mark. Some time around my fifteenth year, right around when my budding breasts had become visible at last (with some help from a corset, but never mind) I was waiting a table for a Count and his woman. He was drunk, or, rather, more drunk than your average patron. I remember the woman looked upon me with annoyed disdain even before what happened happened. The Count saw me, took the bottle from my hand, downed it in a single quaff, then wrapped his arm around my waist and began belting Dark Eyes at the top of his lungs.
If the woman was annoyed before, she was furious then.
"Darling, please," she said, voice dripping with sarcasm. "The girl's so flat people will think you are into boys."

Haven't been in Magic for a good long while. Is there also a Phoenix's Sub? That certainly seems to be the implication.

A Magic the Gathering card called Joshua, Phoenix's Dominant. A young man with coppery hair wearing red robes. He is summoning fire in an outstretched hand while the other holds a long, slender blade. Fire sweeps around him.

It is perhaps implied that he is looking at a sub out of frame, waiting for consent before commencing fire play.

A Facebook post from Horror Forever, advertising three new movies: Slanted, Undertone, and "Bodycum." In the comments, the poster says, "God forbid an editor make a typo." The OP relays the correct title, "Bodycam," but we all know what this movie will be remembered as, now.

Page of Madness is a 1926 film by Teinosuke Kinugasa. Lost for a long time, it was rediscovered, but without the script (which would have been narrated live). Honestly, I think it might work even better without any words. Makes for a truly surreal watch.

Visualizing types of time blindness. Duration, in this case, is the experience of the present, not a measure of discreet time. Clarifications in alt text.

Three pairs of reflected cones, each connected by a cylinder. Each set is a different visualization of time - an ellipse of past on the left, future on the right, and the cylinder representing the experienced present. The top structure visualizes "typical" experience: past actualizing into a cylinder of average proportion (height, length, and depth all more or less equal). The middle structure represents attention deficit: very high and broad perception with a very long sense of duration. The bottom represents hyperfocus: a cylinder lacking height and depth, but with a very short sense of duration. Duration, in these examples, is not a measurement of discreet time. It is the subjective experience of what is "present." With attention deficit, present is very truncated, fleeting, and yet the overwhelming perception results in a moment feeling like a very long time. With hyperfocus, the experience is opposite. Perception drills onto a single task and the perception of time compresses. Long periods of time feel as though they went by in a flash. In each case, the perception of experience and the perception of duration is related. A broadening of present experience comes at the expense of a narrower sense of past and future; a narrowing of the present experience comes at the expense of a narrower sense of now.
