Turns out, kudzu makes even tastier kale chips than kale does! Did you know that the whole plant is edible? Using my standard kale chips recipe, the large, older, tough leaves turn out tender, crispy, and delicate. #kudzu #wildcrafting

Somebody thinks bamboo shoots are tasty! We have a little bamboo forest here. The species is Phyllostachys flexuosa, which grows up to 35 feet tall and about 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter. It's not as aggressively invasive as other kinds of bamboo. #bamboo

My light-skinned hand touching the side of a large bamboo shoot that has had a portion of it near the top chewed off, leaving a fringe of pale stringy bits hanging free. The base of the bamboo shoot is nearly a hand's breadth wide. The top narrows to a point, with long, slender burgundy leaves edged in yellow draping off the sides of the narrow area and forming a "topknot" at the top. Behind the bamboo shoot is a forested area with a mixture of bamboo and hardwood trees. The ground is covered with brown leaf litter interspersed with a few low-growing green plants.

How do you like the pantyhose plant I'm growing in my garden? Just kidding! I've put knee-high stockings over the seed pods on this collard plant so I can save the seed without it falling to the ground or, more likely, getting eaten by our greedy goldfinches. #gardening #GrowYourFood

Last fall, a mushroom vendor at the local farmer's market was selling her used growing blocks for cheap. I bought one, broke it up, and tossed it into the corner of a garden bed. I guess it wasn't completely used up after all, because it's growing shrooms! #gardening
