It's here! Look at this unspeakably sexy beast of a box set from @imprintfilms.bsky.social Aw yeah!
Loved having the chance to see Pedicab Driver in the cinema again thanks to @focushkfilm.bsky.social . I think it may well be Sammo's most accomplished work as a director and his fight with Lau Kar-Leung is an all-time classic.
Look at this beautiful boxset! Three classic chanbara by Eiichi Kudo, released by @arrowvideo.bsky.social . I was delighted to contribute commentaries to 11 Samurai and The Great Killing and I'm looking forward to hearing @midnightmes.bsky.social talk about 13 Assassins
What in seven hells has happened to eBay? Is this peak enshittification?
Some thoughts on No Other Choice open.substack.com/pub/westwatc...
Happiness is Shawscope Volume 4 arriving in the post. All the weirdest and wackiest of Shaw Brothers, plus my essay Strange Tales From A Chinese Screen, all from @arrowvideo.bsky.social
Just received my copy of Saga Of The Phoenix from @88films.bsky.social . Lovely packaging that includes a booklet with my essay about the onscreen cultural crossovers between Hong Kong and Japan.
Oh, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa has left us. Great screen presence, I have a soft spot for the first Mortal Kombat movie.
Coming out in January from @88films.bsky.social , Ti Lung kicks a lot of people and I ramble on about the history of Wu Song onscreen!
Some thoughts on The Shadow's Edge, and a terrible, terrible pun. open.substack.com/pub/westwatc...
Arrow has finally announced Shawscope Vol. 4, a collection focusing on fantasy and horror, out on 8 December.
Had a lot of fun researching and recording the audio commentary for the 88 Films release of Devil Fetus - the beauty of the packaging versus the carnival of the grotesque that lies within! @88films.bsky.social
Superb job by @88films.bsky.social for the way they've put these releases together. Gorgeous slipcases, a poster with Operation Condor, an art card for Witch from Nepal, everything is top notch. And I contributed essays to the booklets.
Just received my copy of Ringo Lam's The Adventurers, out now from Eureka. Andy Lau out for revenge, Rosamund Kwan as a femme fatale, and Paul Chun being evil. Audio Commentary by me!
Watched The Banshees Of Inishirin last night. Great performances from Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Kerry Condon, but I thought Martin McDonagh’s script chased its own tail. Somehow the result was less than the sum of its parts.
Just arrived today, five of the new Blu-rays from @88films.bsky.social that I have contributed to. Plus bonus Mouse.

The Essential Melody Gardot, double album on white vinyl, out for a spin tonight. #jazzsky
What's on the menu today? Serving up some Fried Buzzard, courtesy of Lou Donaldson. Just picked this up, sleeve is splitting but the vinyl sounds great. Features Bill Hardman on trumpet, Billy Gardner on organ, Warren Stephens on guitar, Leo Morris on drums. #jazzsky
Loving this funky set from Lou Donaldson, recorded live at the Cadillac Club, November 1970. Fred Ballard on trumpet, Melvin Sparks on guitar, Leon Spencer Jr at the organ, and Idris Muhammad laying it down on the drums. #jazz #jazzvinyl
New pick up, Tal Farlow Quartet on Blue Note. Huge fan of his playing, plus there's Joe Morello on drums. #jazz
