Kris and Noelle are outside, as a swarm of gnats flies away from them. Noelle has her mouth covered. They are both little kids here.

Kris says "Noelle, the gnats are going away. You don't hafta keep covering your mouth. Why do you do that, anyway?"

Noelle puts her hands down, and says "Because they never come out when I do accidentally inhale one. They just live in my lungs flying around in there until they starve and then I have dead gnats piling up and I can't get them out." There is a Tomodachi Life-styled X-ray image depicting piles of gnats slowly forming in a set of lungs as a few survivors desperately keep flying in an attempt to escape.

Kris tells Noelle "But you'd need to inhale a crap-ton of gnats to die from that," and Noelle gets defensive, shouting "IT'S NOT ABOUT DYING!" She adds "I just don't like them being in there forever and ever."

Three comic panels. In the first, Toriel goes down the stairs, hearing the bathroom sink going at full blast. In the second, she approaches the bathroom door, thinking "(Hopefully this has not gone on too long...)" In the third, she knocks on the door, asking "My child, are you about done? I have a surprise for you." On the other side we see Kris, just about to pierce their own ear with a safety pin.

Four more panels. In the first, Kris hurriedly puts the safety pin in their pocket. In the second, they slowly open the door as Toriel has a hand in her pocket. In the third, Toriel pulls out a jewelry box. In the fourth, Kris points to the box, and Toriel excitedly tells them "Yes, it is for you. Open it!"

Kris opens the box to reveal a pair of earrings. Toriel says "Ta-da! They are clip-on earrings!" Kris then puts the earrings on and looks at their reflection in the bathroom mirror, as Toriel says "I know these are not the same as pierced ones, but there is a considerable travel distance and cost involved with going to a suitable professional. And I do not want someone with no experience doing any kind of permanent alteration to your body that would run the risk of a serious infection. I value your safety above all, my child."

Last two panels. In the first, Kris turns around and says "Um..." as Toriel says "I still remember the exact words you said about Susie and a thumbtack from that presentation that you made." Kris replies "Oh, yeah. That."
In the second, Toriel takes Kris's hands, as they say to her "Thank you for these." Toriel replies "I am very glad you like them!"

Kris approaches, barely in the panel due to their short stature, and clears their throat.
