So, I *did* start Otogirisou last night. I like it! It's like a haunted house simulator, which is quite different from Kamaitachi no Yoru's "murder mystery" vibe. I'm kind of stumbling through it at the moment, but that's what you're supposed to do on your first run-through of these things, right?
Welp, I think I'm done with Kamaitachi no Yoru. I haven't seen all of its endings, sadly, but I also can't go through its game/story anymore. I'm planning to switch over to Otogirisou tonight. It'll be interesting to see how it compares to Kamaitachi no Yoru 🧐🧐🧐
I've put over 12 hours into Kamaitachi no Yoru over the last week or so. I can't tell you exactly how many endings I've experienced so far, but it's definitely more than 10. Even so, I continue to be tickled every time a new option/scene/ending pops up ^_^
I rewatched Event Horizon (1997) for the first time in decades last night. Huh. I remember it being more disturbing. Also, it's kind of terrible overall, isn't it? The actors give it their best, but the script is crap. I did appreciate the sets and practical effects.
I've played a good bit of Detana!! TwinBee for the PC Engine this weekend. TBH, although I've always loved the aesthetics of this game, I've never liked playing it. So, I'm trying once again to see if I can find a way to enjoy it.
I have a strange desire to play the original PC Genjin/Bonk again. I haven't played the game in YEARS. Maybe not since I owned a TG-16? (So, 30-ish years ago.) I'm sure I bought the game on the Wii Virtual Console, but I don't remember playing it. Anyway, I'll add it to my "play soon, dumbass" list.
Started playing War of the Dead for the PC Engine last night. I've avoided it for eons due to the language barrier, password system and annoying-looking battles. Well, you know what? I'm having a blast with it! The battles, especially, are a lot more fun than I was expecting them to be.
I'm still plugging away at Gekisha Boy for the PC Engine, putting at least 30 minutes into it each evening. A few days ago, I *finally* beat the 5th stage (the museum) + moved onto the 6th (beach). Then I beat it + got to the 7th (graveyard). Last night, I got to stage 8, set in the Wild West :D
Just looked up (again) the Japanese PS1 port of Gekisha Boy, renamed Simple1500 Series Vol. 94: The Cameraman. As I thought, it adds a new stage + includes a two-player option -- both of which can be seen in the screenshot here. I love the look of Player 2 ^_^ I need to buy this sucker SOON!!
I hit a wall w/ Parasol Stars over the weekend (some of the stages in the Bubble Bobble world are *brutal*), so I switched to another PC Engine game: Gekisha Boy! Though I've always adored the look of this one, I haven't always enjoyed playing it. Until now, that is. I'm absolutely loving it ATM ^_^
If I have a complaint about Parasol Stars, it's that the game has too many multi-screen stages. Hell, I kind of wish it didn't have any. Its single-screen stages are much more strategic and satisfying, IMHO.
I've played a lot of Parasol Stars for the PC Engine in the last week or two. Working on getting as far as I can before I need to use a continue. World 4's dastardly boss (pictured) is my usual trip-up point at the moment, though I'm starting to be able to beat her with just a few deaths ^_^
Started reading Matt Dinniman's Dungeon Crawler Carl a couple of days ago based on the recommendation of my sister-in-law. Having a hard time putting it down, honestly. It checks a lot of boxes for this longtime fan of dungeon-crawling games ^_^ Any of you also read this one??
Started playing the PC Engine version of Ys I&II last night for the first time in EONS. Even now, nearly 40 years after its initial release (and about 35 years after I first played it on my TG-CD), its opening cinematic blows me away ^_^
Well, well, well! I'm slooowwwly getting better at Tricky for the PC Engine. I can now get to the 5th stage w/ the Haunted House Boy. And I can get to the 4th stages w/ the Elf and the Samurai. I still struggle mightily with the Caveman and "Miracle Man," however :| Anyway, onward and upward!
Another day, another recent PC Engine pickup. This time, it's Tricky (aka Tricky Kick). Few puzzle games have made me feel as stupid as this one does. I can get through the first one or two stages for each character (there are six), but that's it -- so far. I will keep trying until my brain melts!
Guess what? I made it to Stage 5 in the PC Engine port of Splatterhouse last night :D Could Stage 6 be far behind?? I guess we'll find out tonight. I have a sinking feeling I might be stuck here (on Stage 5) for a bit, though. It's pretty long compared to the previous ones...
Another PC Engine game I recently, finally got my hands on is Splatterhouse. Although I've always loved the game's theme + graphics, I tend to find its brand of side-scrolling, beat-em-up gameplay boring. Well, I put some time into it last night -- and I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would!
You know what my favorite aspect of Devil Crash is at the moment? Getting the ball into the pocket that transforms, bit by bit, the lady's face in the middle of the table into a rather hideous lizard creature thing. I don't even know what it does; I just find it thrilling.
I finally got myself a copy of Devil Crash for the PC Engine. Holy shit, what an amazing pinball game! I've generally ignored it up to now in favor of Alien Crush, mainly because I prefer the theme of the latter to the former. Well, I'm here to say that was a *real* misstep on my part.
Made another my9games thingamabob. The games included on this one better represent my current taste in games <3
My favorite gaming experience/accomplishment last year was dedicating a few, solid weeks to playing and getting better at and "beating" Sega's Fantasy Zone. It really took me back to how I approached games as a youth. I'm going to try to do more of the same in 2026 ^_^
Just finished @oniongames.bsky.social's Stray Children after 33-ish hours of play. What a marvelous game in the end :3 I had some reservations early on, but they eventually fell by the wayside. At any rate, Stray Children may well be my favorite Onion Games/Love-de-Lic title at this point O_O
Finally finished Last Window: The Secret of Cape West for the Nintendo DS last night. This was my second time through the game. First time happened in 2019. Strangely, most of the game's second half seemed new to me -- I'd forgotten what happened over the last six or so years.
