Obsolete and obscure hardware nerd. Music geek. Soldering = Zen. Ask me about the Casio Loopy and why it's actually an amazing piece of tech. 📺
After quite a bit of fighting with this PC-9821Xa12, I finally was able to play a game in glorious FM sound. Still have a bit of wrap up work to do, but definitely happy everything's working!
This little guy was taped on a ridge under the power supply. Had to pull most of the computer apart to get to it. 0.11 V It's getting replaced and relocated to a more accessible location in the morning.
Totally normal PC-9821 MS-DOS 6.20 floppy installer. 👻 Seriously though, what the hell possessed my system?
It's the small things that make me smile. Now I have to decide between capturing an image of what's on this drive and then installing software manually to it, or grabbing a premade image.
I guess this Monday will have to be a Modular DIY Kit Building Day. (I'm pretty sure I have more kits somewhere around here)
I forgot to post up my VCFMW table setup yesterday. There were so many lovely folks to chat with and share my love of these systems with. The lead-up work for conventions is so stressful, but seeing so many folks connect with systems from Japan makes it all worthwhile.
I love the way I label parts. Sometimes it'll be months before I get to something and I surprise myself. "Lotus - CGROM Relocator" vs "Lotus - CGROM Relocator But Pretty"
I haven't had a chance to post much this trip (first time in Japan) but I've been able to go to some stores I import from to see what it's like. I've decided to not bring home any new systems to work on since I have enough at home to keep me busy until VCFMW!
He switched over to Ko-fi but also shop is currently closed because Canada Post is on strike.
The size difference between new and old always makes me laugh. The new one is so light it doesn't need the metal surround.
I haven't really been active on (any) social media thanks to a busy month at work and then a hysterectomy ~6 days ago. I'm doing okay, just taking recovery seriously. Here's a bouquet my friends gave me last night. 🩷
Just received a box from Japan with some interesting stuff. Quite a few magazines/books (mostly Perfect Catalogues) and a beautiful looking Tomy Pyuuta! Now to learn G-BASIC in Japanese.
How tonight started... and how tonight ended. Sharp MZ-2500 is alive and working! At least one FDD works and the tape deck tries to find files. Don't worry about the lack of color; I have it hooked up to B&W Composite for now. Now it's bedtime!
Being super lazy with unboxing my latest package from Japan. There's quite a bit of stuff here, some will be used sooner than others. Let me know if anyone wants more pics/info.
Before and After. Don't worry, the pictures are in the correct order - I'm just cleaning under the pinball machine today.
I had a very busy October, then got sick on my way back home from a work event, and am trying to find my groove again. In lieu of photos from the unboxing I did a few days ago, for now please enjoy my new hobonichi planner cover for 2024.
Also the cutest accessory set! Hopefully I'll be setting this bad boy up and playing with it this weekend. 🤞 Will post more pics / video then!
I was looking through my handhelds for a game I'm missing, and noticed my PSP's back was partially off. Sure enough, the battery was bulging. Let this be your daily reminder to check your handheld systems, your old computers, and every single one of your remotes for leaky batteries!
