"Go?" Ilya cocked his head, looking so much like a puppy it surprised Shane—a demon shouldn't look *cute*. "What do you mean go?"

"Uh." Shane paused, suddenly wondering if he had misunderstood the terms of their deal the entire time. "You've finally come to collect my soul. Doesn't that mean you're going to take me to hell with you or something?"

Shock covered Ilya's face for a moment, the demon clearly stunned—and then he threw his head back in a roar of laughter.

"Did I say I wanted your soul back then?" Ilya finally got himself under control, but his grin had gone feral. "My mistake. I meant I want your *hole*."

Ais says nothing, merely walks over and takes a seat next to Vere on the steps.

Neither of them speak for a long while. Vere clenches and unclenches his fists, claws digging into his skin and leaving bloody pinpricks behind. Ais fights the urge to reach out and grab his hand, to tell him to stop that.

“They let me off my leash sometimes if I've earned a few hours of freedom. That's why I was at the Wick the other night.”

Ais says nothing and gives Vere room to gather his thoughts. He briefly wonders who ‘they’ are but he quickly gets his answer.

“I’m nothing more than a pathetic trained pet for the Senobium.”
