As it has most things in life, Red Dawn has already explained the global turn away from liberalism.
This is such a good question I just researched it. Tom Jung first drew him for the Timothy Zahn covers but is a recluse. Various sources say Zahn has said the ref was 19th century naval uniforms, but I can’t find the primary source for that. Early 1800s royal navy officers did wear high boots.
If for no other reason, Reilly Ace of Spies is worth watching for hour after hour of Sam Neill pulling off immaculate Edwardian fits.
I distinctly remember thinking this was photo realistic.
It’s a little timid, but I’d go with an outfit inspired by late 19th early 20th century court and military uniforms except with a giant codpiece matching that year’s theme. So no different from a normal party.
This is just a guy but had it been a celebrity dressed as just a guy it would be my favorite so far.
This is at least has the virtue of leaving me with no idea what he was going for but the haunting suspicion that he succeeded.
