I may or may not have unofficial eyes on the ground for part of a dignitary's Irish visit today. Religious tones abound. Currently a waiting game I'm told, but spirits are high

I did it. Poached eggs aren't so fashionable anymore, it's harder to get them it seems. A place found via online reviews might become a new favourite. No word back on the submission. I'm not as patient as I thought.

It's a poached eggs dish once again from this account. It sits on a rustic looking wooden table. I took the picture halfway through eating- I had a taste and nearly forgot to stop. The ingredients are a little higgledy-piggledy in layout, as if to visually confirm this. Not the restaurant's fault at all.

Great editorial on govt & consulting's misleading inflation of the economic benefits of Irish data centre devt. In case the article gets blocked in future:

"The figures, earnestly recited last week by Minister for Finance Simon Harris, deserve scrutiny. The 876,000 jobs attributed to data centres are spread across six sectors of the Irish economy – ICT, finance, healthcare, transport, retail and professional services – adjusted for their estimated dependency on digital infrastructure. This is an absurd argument. By this logic, a large share of every job in Irish services is attributable to data centres. In fact, the actual number of people employed in operational data centres in 2024 was around 3,300. And the construction jobs which bulk up the figures considerably are, by definition, temporary and projected to fall to zero by 2030. Data centres now account for 22 per cent of Ireland’s total metered electricity consumption, more than all urban households combined."

With this, I'm uncomfortable with the positioning of his initial punishment as "necessary to maintain public confidence". Is the inference that this was meant mostly as PR, and so can be flexible? Rather than the force setting a minimum standard of no tolerance for their organisation?

I don't think it should matter what a wife-beater and proven perpetrator of harrassment decides that he accepts vs doesn't accept in his- let's face it- extremely lenient punishment. His record can definitely be described as "unusual, extreme and exceptional" behaviour- the Act needs updating

It's been a wonderful week

The picture is a collage of six images:

🍂 It's a beautiful season for being excited about driving in too, which I didn't know was a thing. The lunch I just had was also something of a vision, but there's no real reason why I couldn't have just made it at home. Oh well

A lady's lunching done well here. A poached eggs dish is depicted, but with no scrimping on the serving given its standard market value of at the moment regardless of quality. If you feel you know poached eggs well enough at this stage you can duck out now.

The picture includes two separate pieces of thick crusty bread, coated in chunky glorious avocado, chopped red onion and chopped tomato mini-slabs. A poached egg sits on top of these offerings on each slice of bread. The slices are positioned at either side of a white rectangular dish, with a side salad in the gap on the plate in between the slices. Chilli oil coats the top of each egg. The side of the saucer and my cup of tea make a modest appearance at the very top right edge of the photo. You could imagine from the picture that the surrounding atmosphere has a sense of peace even in a busy eatery, and you'd be correct in this thought.

A screenshot of a YouTube comment under a video of a song that Tim Curry sang, *not* from Rocky Horror- I didn't reveal which song in the original message so I won't do it here either. Context in the comment should reveal it to those in the know, or with easy access to IMDB. The comment in the screenshot says:

"When you find yourself becoming attracted to a fucking cloud of smoke that's when you know Tim Curry is one history's best actors."

[The original writer left out a word. Possibly overwhelmed with sentiment.]

An article from 2023, but it's hard to imagine the landscape has changed all that much since then. A clear and insightful piece, but at times a heavy read.

Instead of conversing and interacting with residents, now they could give them Paro to play with and monitor the interaction from a distance. And where workers who had to lift a resident had used the occasion to have a chat and build their relationship, those using the Hug machine had to shorten the interaction so they’d have time to wheel the robot back to where it was stored. In each case, existing social and communication-oriented tasks tended to be displaced by new tasks that involved more interaction with the robots than with the residents. Instead of saving time for staff to do more of the human labor of social and emotional care, the robots actually reduced the scope for such work."

You can't say AI never encourages human innovation, I guess
