This morning it was 53 degrees (12 Celsius) and overcast. When I got off the plane this afternoon it was 93 degrees (34 Celsius) and blindingly bright. Gonna be rough reacclimating to this weather.

My favorite parts of this book so far are all the excerpts from Arizona newspapers in the 1880s, none of which thought much of James A. Reavis. “J. Addison Reavis, the gentleman who parts his name in the middle…” is such a cutting way of calling someone a pretentious dandy.
The youngest and I chilling on my dad’s back porch. Got a fire going, dinner’s cooking, and I’m reading about the Baron of Arizona. It was a kind of shaky start to the trip but this is a bit of alright.

The Peralta Grant is a nonfiction account of the Baron of Arizona, who tried to take almost the entire state of Arizona through fraudulent Spanish land grants. I’m a few chapters in and it’s a little dry but pretty entertaining. #Booksky

Down in Santa Monica for the day, an early birthday celebration for the youngest. Not the best beach for swimming, for reasons you can probably intuit from the photo, but we’re here for the pier anyway. The kids will be riding the rides playing some games and eating fun food that’s bad for them.
R.I.P. to this small mug I bought the summer I spent in London. I picked it up in a pound shop along with a few other necessities for my stay. Also, 26 years and I just decided to look up what the writing is: ‘Coffee coffee coffee’ It never once had coffee in it.
Like most of these items, the danger wasn’t that the shock was high enough to injure, but that it would bilk you out of money and steer you away from legitimate treatment. The most disturbing part to me was seeing the pockets for adapters, including adult, child, and infant!
Today’s interesting thrift store find is some truly nefarious quackery. A ‘gamma generator,’ basically a small device for self-administering little shocks. There were specific cartridges you could swap out to address whatever ailments you might suffer from, from bad breath to cancer to HIV.
A small sampling of antique hand tools found in an old trunk buried under merchandise in the back room of the thrift store. Apart from the flashlight, most of the stuff was from the 20s. The butcher knife was made by a company that closed in 1924. The hammer has ‘MAY 1927’ carved into it.
#JustWatched Exit 8 (2025) If you’re looking for more internet-grown, somewhat liminal horror, this is for you. Never played the game but this was a treat. Kind of like a Japanese Cube, but not the actual Japanese remake of Cube that came out a couple years ago. Quite fun. #Filmsky #Horrorsky
