My daughter is leaving her kindergarten and going to school, and round here it's traditional to give the kindergarten something with the names on it of all that year's moving-on kids. So I made a birdbox/feeder for my wife to paint. (Then I'll attach the rest of the roof) #woodworking
Currently knocking down this old oak wardrobe to try and repair some bits, and find myself both admiring and cursing the person who made it. They knew what they were doing, and this joint is fighting like a bastard. It simply will not come apart. Details in alt text. #woodworking
Got a bit of a restoration attempt project today. Dusty, very old handmade oak wardrobe that's been sat at the back of the workshop for who knows how long. Many split panels and knackered edges, so we'll see what the boss wants done with it. So far I've cleaned it and got rid of a paint spill.
Just bought a fancy screwdriver (because I covet shiny things) and it came with an utterly risible sticker claiming I'm a "Tool Rebel". This brand is so prevalent in Germany that you will find a few in pretty much any pro tradie's toolbox. Marketing are huffing their own farts again.
So I watched a Paul Sellers video for some ideas, and got a much better result.
Well, last week I got given some dovetail drawers to make for my boss, for practise. They didn't go great: tried everything I've been taught, and it just wasn't quite lining up. Turned out ok, ish, but not up to where I wanted: gaps to fill, uneven lines, all the crap stuff. 1/ #woodworking
Honestly, don't encourage this stuff. They will go further if you let them. Aldi, too.
Got my #woodworking exam workpiece back this week. A few very obvious flaws, a few less obvious flaws, but overall not a bad effort. It got me a 3, two points below a grade 2. Next time will be a 1, because I learned a lot about what *not* to do. I'm told it was one of the better pieces on the day.
Trying out a new-to-me ramen brand, they make great claims for their chilli levels. Started with half the packet just in case. Will report back.
Oh yes. This one (slightly tweaked from Nigella's original) gets requested by local events I've done it for previously.
Oi, @faineg.bsky.social , your eminently sensible arguments about the benefits of aircon have led to me having to carry this thing upstairs. It's cold and raining here at the moment, but when it's 35°C in the house in August I'm going to be thankful. You monster. 😉

Holiday cooking setup. There are two built-in hobs, with horrible touch controls guaranteeing a burnt finger, so I've brought an induction hob too. Currently caramelising some onions to go with pork medallions and veg.
Check you out with the Weber kit. I'm still on my off-brand nonsense, although it's liable to rust through one of these days.
Got myself a proper utility kilt and it's really comfy. Not sure Bavaria is quite ready to see me in it in public, though.
Two weeks ago it was still 4°C in the morning, and now Enzo is shedding furiously and has conked out on the warm patio. Poor bugger must be confused af.
