In the UK they are usually called 'rescue dogs'. People think it's because you've rescued them. Not a bit of it. I know who rescued whom and I'm completely and eternally grateful to her.
"Puppy" in the loosest sense. Probably about 5 years old in this picture - rescue dog (she rescues me).
This is still my dog. She still (sometimes, was never all the time) jumps up on my lap for extra cuddles.

Rescue dog. I mean, clearly, she rescues me (frequently), but the idea a human being abandoned this... Humans suck. Another Talia shot, since I'm being self-indulgent. That's pretty much how she always looks at me...

Hitchen's razor is a very useful tool within debate or discourse. "What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence" This isn't a summation of the scientific method. It's perfectly within the realms of science to posit a theory for which there is no extant evidence.
