This is what gets lost in this ongoing discourse, especially as Farrell reignited it on Saturday: the role of the media in it. This segment was written by Tony Ward after Ireland almost lost to Wales last year. But he was far from the only one to go big on Prendergast off very little evidence.

I just did a quick trawl of the sewer. Majority are not based on Ireland and every single one I saw showed evidence of a proxy being used to spoof an Irish IP. Recognize what this is, as well as seeing our own scumbags for what they are.

Listen to the reaction there. Real Irish people, cheering on the debut of another real Irish man. Don't pay too much attention to what anonymous blue tick accounts based in Tel Aviv, Bangladesh, or the US think.

On Ireland's defensive system here — as Murray was saying on the Virgin coverage — it seems to me to be asking a lot of both O'Brien and Prendergast to be successful if this is the scheme with O'Brien trying to close in 8m diagonally, leaving Prendergast 12m to close down Bielle-Biarrey.
