Today's #art practice is a second postcard-sized #ink and #watercolour painting from a photo taken on our trip to #Norfolk in April. This one is from a walk we did at #RanworthBroad. I'm pleased with the water and the wooden posts. I think I'm quite good at doing wooden posts!

My go-to #art practice at the moment seems to be the #ink and #watercolour postcard capturing an 'ordinary' view... but when is a view of a landscape ever really ordinary...?! Today's is based on a photo taken in April while staying in #Norfolk, a view from a walk at #RocklandStMary near Norwich...

By request I've gone back to my recent #Ham&Lyme50k run this morning for another #ink and #watercolour painting. This one is of a view nearer the finish as the sea becomes visible at ~25.6 miles approaching #WoottonFitzpaine in #Dorset...

Yesterday's avocet seemed to go down well, so I've stayed with the #bird theme today for another play with #charcoal + #watercolour pencils and this picture of a #kestrel. It's interesting exploring different media. This one required lots of #patience - not normally something I have in large supply!

This morning I had an urge to try something different in my #art practice and for reason unknown, drawing an #avocet with a #charcoal pencil came to mind. Then a coloured #pencil background got involved! (I'm not entirely sure it's a positive addition). This was #fun to do and a fresh challenge.

This is at ~7 miles, on the #LibertyTrail between Haselbury Plucknett and North Perrott, #Somerset. I liked the framing of the wall of trees - the shade they provided was nice too!

This afternoon I started a new series of postcard-sized ink and #watercolour pictures, from photos I took while running the #Ham&Lyme50k Ultra yesterday. This one shows the path across mown hay field just over 3 miles from the start at Ham Hill in #Somerset...

... well I got to the finish - 31 miles and 1088 metres of (sometimes brutal) ascent through glorious countryside in roasting temperatures in 8 hours and 25 minutes. And yes, it was enjoyable in a weird kind of way.

Somewhat crazy... in 15 minutes time I will set out from Ham Hill in South Somerset to run down to Lyme Regis on the Dorset coast for the Ham & Lyme 50km Ultramarathon. I ran this route in 2019, taking 7 hours 20 minutes, but I'm not so well prepared today so there's no telling how far I will get...

By happy accident, it was only after I started painting that I realised I hadn't used ink, and once done I felt it was fine as it was!

Such a shame. I set out to do a quick, loose, ink/watercolour picture of a view near Hebden Bridge, but then spent ages doing a detailed ink drawing only to ruin it as soon as I started painting the sky by damaging the paper surface. Maybe I'll have a chance to produce something else later on...

For this morning's #art practice I wanted to see what I could do with a simple #watercolour and ink scene, and chose this view from a photo I took of some #BeltedGalloways on a hillside above #Cadover Bridge, #Dartmoor. The sky and ground are fine, but I think I need to practice my cows!

This morning I've had another play with a #Sharpie sketch of #trees. This one is based on a photo of an old miners trail through #Dartmoor woods posted last week by @tamarphotography (bsky.app/profile/tama...). It was fun to do but I've struggled to capture the darkness within in the wood...

Today I have 'run' a 16.6 mile section of the #SouthWestCoastPath in #Cornwall from Looe to Rame Head. It took me ~4.5 hours. Running the coast path is hard... alternating steep climbs and tricky downhills... in 25 degree heat with minimal shade... I'm slowly coming back to life...

This was fun. Sometimes I yearn to produce #art that's a bit more #abstract, but I struggle to shift away from the details to capture the essence. So I'm pleased with the result of today's #play... an impression of marvellously twisting #branches within a wood, roughly drawn with a #Sharpie...

Here's the complete set of my Lynher Postcards #ink over #watercolour sketches... the fruits of my #art practice over the last four days. The Lynher is a tributary that flows into the River Tamar just south of the Tamar Bridge between Saltash in #Cornwall and Plymouth in #Devon.

It's a new longest 'run' since my MCL injury in August 2024 but I can't claim it was a success. I was aiming for 21 miles but began to slow at about 10 and was 'walking' for much of the last 8 or so, even though they were downhill, and I cut it short at the 20 mile mark. My legs just gave up on me

Here's the 4th and final picture in a series that I have ended up calling #Tamar and #Tavy Postcards - a view looking up the River Tavy towards Lopwell Dam. It’s been a lot of fun playing with this #ink over #watercolours approach, but a real challenge to stop my 0.05mm pen from getting clogged up!
