Cross stitch progress week 3 🧶 🪡 🧵: caught up on chores, and stitched over all the blue. Two pictures this week, as I switched to a smaller q-snap. The clamp holds this one better and it's easier to work two-handed and reach everything. 😄 Next: stitching over a lot of that yellow background.
It really isn't! My binoculars for watching the 90% partial eclipse on the 12th of August this year just arrived today, I need that moon to stay in one piece!
I finally 'caught' a peacock butterfly! 🌱😀 (A reasonable picture of one, no butterflies were harmed). I've seen these flying around in my yard all week, sometimes three at a time, and all earlier attempts failed: flew away, wings closed, the light hitting wrong so looking almost entirely black...
Cross stitch week 2🧵 🪡 🧶 : not a lot of progress. I cut my left index finger on Sunday morning, and didn't stitch again until Wednesday evening, as the wound reopened with the slightest knock or poke. Now, a party first and I will make up for (treat myself to) the missed stitching time next week 😄
As for plants and flowers, there isn't much news though. Most of what was already blooming is still going strong, the only newcomers are some of the livingstone daisies, which are slowly opening up. 🌱 #gardening
My sincere apologies to these two, who got caught up in my attempts to water my plants. The butterfly got hit with the spray from the hose more than once and the spider had its web destroyed. I didn't see it before aiming a watering can right through it to water the potted plant it was inhabiting. 🌱
First week of progress! I'm definitely having happy new project vibes. This cross stitch is just so bright 🌞😃 (both the stamping, all that yellow! and the floss, so pink!). Goal for next week is to try and finish all of the stamped blue around the areas I've already stitched. 🧶 🪡 🧵
And before people get a too romantic idea of having a garden (even as small as mine): the weeds I pulled today. I didn't keep up during a heatwave, and am regretting it! So much grasses, horsetail ferns, a knotweed, some weird plant almost as big as a sunflower, digging out bindweed. 🌱
I went with a flamingo as my next cross stitch project. I want something bright after all the muted blue and grey tones from the penguins, though I will probably regret it once I reach the sea of pink in this one 🫣. First 21 bright orange stitches done, only 37615 stitches to go! 🧵 🪡 🧶
Week 14: cross stitch is done! 🧶 🪡 🧵 😃 I was reminded of how much I hate backstitching, especially as this had to go through 'the middle' of crosses a lot, instead of on the corners. Now to find a nice frame and gift it! 🎁
While the penguins cross stitch is soaking in water, I'm trying to choose a next project. Finish the dinosaur forest (from owlforest)? One of three other owlforest patterns I have patterns+supplies for? One of the four stamped kits? I'm leaning towards flamingo, just because it's so summer-y.🧵 🪡 🧶
Week 13: I didn't entirely meet my goal from last week, but I'm calling it close enough. Stopping for today as my arm is starting to feel tired. Next week is vacation, so the goal is to finish the entire cross stitch! 🧶 🪡 🧵
Oops! I forgot to post my cross stitch progress of week 12 yesterday 🫣 🧵 🪡 🧶. So here's a picture of this morning, before I did anything. That's practically the same thing as a picture from yesterday evening. 😅 Goal for next week is finishing both heads!
Heat wave incoming. 🔥🌞 Those always destroy my appetite for regular meals, so I made a big bowl of pasta salad to snack on instead. This is officially four servings but it will probably last me a whole week. 🍽️ 🍜
The colors don't clash, but the finish just doesn't look as neat as it would've if I'd used a single color. It's really hard to capture well in a picture, but if I'd have used all purple, this would look more like a single, solid purple line instead of a pink line with wonky purple stitches on it.
Week 11 was bad for cross stitch progress. 🧶 🧵 🪡 Great for some other things though, cooking, gardening, organizing, being a couch potato... Just not so much for cross stitching 😃
Spent time restocking the freezer today. Four different meals, 19 portions. Three of them are stock favorites, the fourth is a new dish, with radishes, chicken and potatoes from the oven. To be served chilled with an orange juice and mustard dressing. 🍽️ 🍜
Week 10! The cross stitch is coming along nicely, almost finished everything below the horizon 😃 🪡 🧵 🧶.
I forgot spring cleaning when I wrote that, finishing it by the end of June is too ambitious now. He doesn't sell it, and we're still experimenting (see pics of what happened to version 1). I can ask him if he can share the design so you can (get someone to) print it (for you), if it finally works.
After 7 weeks of different stuff, I'm back to regularly working on the baby penguins cross stitch 🧶 🧵 🪡 🥰. I'm just going to count it as "week 9" for progress purposes, as the hours I spent during those seven weeks about average what I would do in a week anyways.
Did a whole bunch of 'baking' over the past three days. It was good to spend some time in the kitchen again ☺️. The result: two sorts of no-bake cream cheese cakes for Mother's Day last Sunday, and a small pound cake + no-bake lemon curd cakes as a treat for coworkers tomorrow. 🍽️🍜
Cross stitch progress week 8: not a lot on the penguins, except for ripping out the light blue. Had to do some travelling and took a few of the small potted plant cross stitches I had lying around. Finished three of them, making five of those finished in total, only 7 to go! 🧶 🧵 🪡
Cross stitch progress week 7: got a lot done. I wasn't happy with how much the blue stood out among the grey on the left, so I switched in some colors from my stash for the right. Any opinions on what is better: the blues (1 and 2) or the light and greenish gray (3 and 4)? 🪡🧵🧶
I really almost chickened out when I saw how much this was, afraid of wouldn't fit in the freezer🫣... But it seems 20kg of chicken fits just fiiine, with room to spare. Ready for a few rounds of meal prepping to come now. 🍽️ 🍜
Cross stitch progress time: two weeks (5 & 6) instead of one. 🪡 🧵 🧶 Had a bit of chaos last week so didn't post progress. Bonus picture of the back this week, still happy with how neat it is. There's a few threads I'll need to tuck in properly, but so far working from the front only goes very well.
Well, this was a disappointment! Tried baking bread using one of my cast iron pots as a "shape". Changed nothing else, followed the instructions on the box mix just like usual... But the bread just isn't "done". Tried to cut it and the crust is rock hard but raw dough just stuck to the knife 😞🍜🍽️
Time to start restocking the freezer meals. Made six servings of the chicken-apple slowcooker curry (forgot to take a picture while it was still in the slowcooker) and six servings of spicy green beans, chicken and baby potatoes (one eaten as tonight's dinner already). 🍽️ 🍜 😋
Cross stitch week 4. Feeling like I'm back on track to finish this by June. Not so sure about the colors though. Hopefully it looks better once everything is filled out.
