Fourth Street in Louisville, KY, looking North from the intersection with Broadway. 1930. This was probably taken from the roof of the Brown Hotel.
Why the fuck is a P8 Poseidon doing pattern-work at the fucking international airport at 2pm on a Tuesday?
Here's roughly the same view, roughly today. The large building to the left is a federal courthouse. Just past the courthouse is the unoccupied former offices and printing facility of the Courier Journal (for sale for a mere $6.5 million).
Louisville, KY, looking west along Broadway at 7th street. Broadway used to have electrified trolley tracks running down the middle, with protected boarding platforms. 1929. #LouisvilleTransitHistory
Streetcar tracks in the middle of Bardstown Road (at the intersection with Baxter Ave., looking north). 1936. Not sure what's going on with the trolley wire here (I can't see one over the tracks in the foreground), but I know this line ran until 1941. #LouisvilleTransitHistory
The University Library has been digitizing a collection of nitrate negatives from a civil engineering firm that existed in town from the 1910s-1960s, and it includes SO many good shots of the public works we were be able to build here
til during the 1987 trolley festival, they towed diesel generators behind trolleys for service on tracks that weren't part of the extant light rail network
