A pair of USAF F-16C Falcons from the Colorado Air National Guard joined the Aviation PhotoCrew photoflight 2 years ago today on the Thursday before Abbotsford International Airshow. This was my first air-to-air photoshoot that featured an afterburning jet!
Already 2 years since the Aviation Photocrew photoshoot with the Erickson Aircraft Collection near Mount Baker, so for this #warbirdwednesday here is their B-17G Flying Fortress "Ye Olde Pub" in golden hour lighting! Do you prefer the profile or the landscape view better?
The Northern Stars Aeroteam emerge from a stormy cloud with a backlit setting sun in the distance casting dynamic shadows on the smoke systems of their Pitts Specials.
Here, you will find a preview of the 12 months. The calendar features some of my best pictures of them over the years, spanning from 2016-2025, with air-to-air photoshoots, and memorable joint formations, from British Columbia to Saskatchewan to Ontario. aviatorsbookshelf.ca/products/sno...
This year is the final year of the Snowbirds flying CT-114 Tutor, so I've dedicated the 2027 calendar to the Snowbirds. It features some of my best pictures of them over the years. For the 1st time I can offer an online store where the calendar can be purchased! aviatorsbookshelf.ca/products/sno...
The CF Snowbirds Big Diamond formation topside at Barrie Airshow, with the fading sun showcasing golden hour light and shadows over the CT-114 Tutor aircraft. You would not know it from this picture, but there was a big storm not too far away just north of the venue!
#throwbackthursday to the time the RAAF Roulettes performed a Twilight display at the 2023 Australian International Airshow in their PC-21 aircraft. I quite like how the lights of these planes look in the evening.
Thunder Bay was not having a great day either.. NavCanada has a camera at the local airport to give an idea of what that 1587 AQI reading looks like! www.metcam.navcanada.ca/hb/player.js...
Lots of smoke over Toronto and other populated areas today from wildfires in Northwest Ontario and the Boreal Forest. Pictured, a CL-415 Water Bomber C-GOGX from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources demonstrates a water drop at the 2024 Canadian International Air Show.
Todd Farrell of the Northern Stars Aeroteam flies low and fast at the Barrie Airshow in the Pitts Special.
The Edenvale Classic Aircraft Foundation's PT-26A Cornell conducts a bottom side pass in front of spectators at the 2026 Barrie Airshow, just as the sun returns with turbulent weather in the distance, offering billowing clouds in the backdrop.
It's a late #warbirdwednesday post with warbirds at the end of the day - Victory Flight Hawker Hurricane, P-51D Mustang, and Spitfire fly in formation at the 2026 Barrie Airshow as the last rays of light hit the warbirds before dark. Nearby storms resulted in some moody clouds to add to the effect.
A few more of the individual solo burner passes from the RCAF CF-18 Hornets and the F-35A Lightning II fighter jets that passed over the USA Ambassador's Residence in Ottawa July 4th. Aircraft included: CF-18 188761 CF-18 188933 F-35 18-5417 F-35 22-5695
A look at the formation of 2 RCAF CF-18 Hornets and 2 USAF F-35A Lightning II fighters that flew together over the USA 250th party at the USA Ambassador's Residence in Ottawa, Canada. Still to come are the individual burner passes that each jet performed!
The CF Snowbirds complete a flypast and a Maple Split over LeBreton Flats in Ottawa on Canada Day. The second pass occurred shortly before building storms rolled in and generated the second wettest day in Ottawa on records going back to the 1800s with over 110mm of rain fall.
Shoutout as well to Porter Airlines YTZ > YOW #PD2267 for photobombing one of the passes of the RCAF CF-18 Hornet getting refueled by the CC-150 Polaris during the World Cup Patrol, that was pretty cool to see in the same frame! #fifaworldcup
Keeping with the #fifaworldcup theme, over today's Panama vs. Croatia game was RCAF CC-150 Polaris 15004, but thanks to the time of day the tanker had some spectacular red and orange tones as the sun set and the moon rose, including this wonderful pass in front of the moon.
Over the Germany vs. Côte d'Ivoire #FIFAWorldCup game in Toronto today was the RCAF CC-150 Polaris 15004 and a pair of CF-18 Hornets on patrol over the world cup. Pictured are some of the aerial refueling operations over the City of Toronto!
Mike Tryggvason making trails at Barrie Airshow in his ag cat over Kempenfelt Bay. The stormy weather comes off as total darkness off to the north, or the left in this image.
Pictures of the RCAF Snowbirds Flypast over Toronto Stadium (Most other times of the year, BMO Field) as the Canadians kick off FIFA World Cup 2026 at home. The Snowbirds are scheduled to perform at #BarrieAirshow this weekend.
Images over Toronto today of the NORAD live-fly training exercise ahead of the FIFA World Cup. Pictured are USAF KC-135 Stratotanker 58-0107, Top Aces Alpha Jet CHETA02 C-GVNY, and 2 RCAF CF-18 Hornets. The haze and clouds made it challenging to see, but the tanker had visible vortices as a result.
Here is an example of the previous year's calendar, Canadian Aviation Icons!
I ran a poll on Instagram gauging interest of producing a Snowbirds Tribute calendar vs. one of my typical ones with a different aircraft each image, and 84% voted in favour of a Snowbirds Tribute Calendar as the 2027 theme. Would anyone on this platform be interested? If so, let me know!
The last of the USMC AV-8B Harriers were retired today. I haven't seen one since 2017, so here is a picture of the era over Lake Michigan at the Chicago Air and Water Show. Did you get the chance to see the Harrier fly? If not, there are still Spanish and Italian Harriers in service.
A look back at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum Fairey Firefly Mk. VI as it flew over Goderich Municipal Airport (YGD) while supporting the Lancaster's return visit almost two years ago, in June of 2024.
The news about RIAT being cancelled this year has me looking back at some of my RIAT pictures. This image of the Belgian F-16 Solo Display Team was taken in 2018, during the RAF's 100th anniversary.
They had a fantastic routine that year, which featured a Battle of Britain pass where the contrails simulated the shattered skies in the Battle of Britain. This created one of my all time favourite photographs of them.
The CT-114 Tutor has entered the twilight of its career. It was announced that this will be the final season of the RCAF Snowbirds in the CT-114 Tutor after 55 years of displays. The fleet will transition to the CT-157 Siskin II, based off of the Pilatus PC-21 some time in the early 2030s.
How about a #warbirdwednesday post? The B-17 Yankee Lady visited Airshow London in 2022 and put on a beautiful golden hour display. At the time, it was the crown jewel of the then-named Yankee Air Museum, now Michigan Flight Museum. It has since been sold to a private owner.
