The Badgers women's hockey nonconference schedule for 2026-27 is set. Find the entire schedule as we know it so far at the link below. badgerextra.com/sports/hocke...
Wisconsin men's hockey has a winning all-time record against all of its nonconference opponents in the upcoming season. Here's more on the schedule: badgerextra.com/sports/hocke...
Badgers men's hockey got a commitment from 17-year-old forward Luke Pietila, who'll be playing for the U.S. at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup this week and is signed to play for Green Bay in the USHL this season. His brother Adam is entering his third year at UW.
The Badgers women's hockey team has its first verbal commit for 2028 in Minnetonka forward Claire Sommerfeld, per her Instagram. She had 22 goals and 42 points in 28 games as a sophomore. www.instagram.com/p/DbGQqm7RDdE/
Are ads on helmets going to be allowed in NCAA hockey? The men's hockey oversight committee has asked for that flexibility.
The NCAA also is trying to clarify Rule 94 on body checking for women's hockey to get "more uniform rule enforcement nationally." As always, good luck with that.
Interesting development for NCAA women's hockey rules: The elimination of stoppages for playing the puck with a high stick, used on a trial basis by the WCHA last season, was pulled back from full approval. Sounds like there was a lot of pushback in the comment period.
The event to formally introduce incoming Wisconsin athletic director Shawn Eichorst is going on inside the Champions Club at Camp Randall Stadium.
The Badgers got a commitment from defenseman Charlie Mineman. It's looking like the fall of either 2027 or 2028 for his arrival at UW.
Wisconsin's Mark Johnson is a finalist for the national coach of the year award in women's hockey. Conference coaches of the year and Frozen Four participants get finalist spots, and Johnson and Penn State's Jeff Kampersal checked both boxes.
Laila Edwards will play forward for the Badgers in Saturday's NCAA regional final against Quinnipiac. Here's Mark Johnson today talking about that decision after Edwards played defense in the Olympics and the four UW games since.
From last week: Stevens Point's Teddy Westrick was named the ninth winner of the Jeff Sauer Humanitarian Award for high school hockey players.
The NCAA women's hockey selection show is at 10:30 a.m. CT on ESPNU. The committee had a little bit of work to do in setting up regionals because of Yale and Princeton being at 8 and 9. Here's my best guess on how they split them up:
Wisconsin's Lacey Eden is the WCHA forward of the month for February and goalie Rhyah Stewart is rookie of the month.
The WCHA site now has Wisconsin-Minnesota State as the early game Thursday.
The Badgers will go into the final series of the Big Ten regular season with a 6-point lead over Ohio State for fourth place and home ice in the first round. OSU has the head-to-head tiebreaker. Any UW point at PSU or OSU loss of points vs. Notre Dame wraps up 4th for UW.
Hello again from LaBahn Arena, where No. 1 Wisconsin tries to secure a spot in the WCHA Final Faceoff in Game 2 of a first-round series against Bemidji State (3 p.m., B1G+, 1070 AM). No changes for UW from its 7-0 win Friday. Looks like Ava Hills starts for BSU.
Hello from LaBahn Arena, where No. 1 Wisconsin plays Bemidji State in Game 1 of a best-of-three WCHA playoff quarterfinal series at 6 p.m. (B1G+, 1070 AM). The five Badgers Olympians are back in the lineup, with Laila Edwards listed at defense.
Wisconsin goalie Eli Pulver is the Big Ten's third star after he had a .936 save percentage in last week's split against Michigan.
Ava McNaughton, Kirsten Simms and Adéla Šapovalivová are back on the ice with the Badgers at practice this morning. Sounds like a day off for Laila Edwards and Caroline Harvey, and after they were Team USA's top two in time on ice, that seems more than reasonable.
The Badgers' Olympic gold medalists are back in Madison. Laila Edwards, Kirsten Simms, Caroline Harvey, Ava McNaughton and athletic trainer Stefanie Arndt arrived at Dane County Regional Airport late Monday night. I asked how they were doing and Edwards said "good" with a 👍.
Here's how it looked at UW-Madison's Union South when Badgers legend Hilary Knight tied the gold-medal game with 2:04 remaining.
The finalists for the Jeff Sauer Humanitarian Award for Wisconsin high school hockey players are: Teddy Westrick of Stevens Point Addy Benson of Superior Makenna Hutchison from the Hayward co-op Kaitlyn Juneau from the Lakeshore Lightning co-op
Wisconsin defenseman Luke Osburn is the Big Ten's second star after he had two goals and two assists in the series against Notre Dame.
Wisconsin's Lacey Eden is the WCHA forward of the week after she did a little bit of everything in Sunday's 4-1 win over Ohio State.
The U.S. completed a four-game sweep of Canada in the Rivalry Series with a 4-1 win Saturday. Hilary Knight scored twice, and Caroline Harvey and Laila Edwards each scored once. Here's how current and former Badgers players did over the four games.
The NFL did the Holiday Face-Off a favor by moving the Packers' Week 17 game against the Ravens to Saturday night, Dec. 27. (It's unwise to schedule against the Packers in Wisconsin.) That was the holdup in getting times for the tournament at Fiserv Forum, which we now know:
An eight-point weekend got Wisconsin's Lacey Eden the WCHA forward of the week award while Caroline Harvey was defender of the week for a seven-point weekend.
Wisconsin's Caroline Harvey is the WCHA defender of the week for the third time this season and the 13th time in her four-year career. She had six points last weekend.
Hello again from LaBahn Arena, where No. 1 Wisconsin plays its last home game of 2025 against No. 15 St. Thomas (7:02 p.m., B1G+, 1070 AM). Same lineup for UW as in Thursday's 8-0 win. Vivian Jungels is day to day with an injury.
