Reminds me of when my 9-yr-old daughter won $1000 for a Women in Construction event for building the pyramids along the Nile with Lego. All the other kids made modern buildings. She's now 25 studying mechanical engineering with a minor in aeronautical engineering at University of Dayton

I was about to say "Bacon is probably the only thing that hasn't been recalled" until I double checked and found this

Maple Leaf Foods is recalling approximately 12,036 pounds of Canadian bacon imported without required U.S. inspection, affecting Grocery Outlet stores in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
Reason for Recall
The recall involves not ready-to-eat (NRTE) smoked bacon imported from Canada that bypassed the required USDA import reinspection, a federal safeguard to ensure meat products meet U.S. food safety standards before sale. This is a regulatory compliance issue rather than a contamination finding, and no illnesses or injuries have been reported from these products

The recall covers two brands in 12-ounce vacuum packages:
Royale Natural Applewood Smoked ALL NATURAL Uncured Bacon, Product of Canada
Sell-by dates: SEP 01 2026 and SEP 07 2026
TOP VALU Uncured Hardwood Smoked Bacon, Product of Canada
Sell-by dates: SEP 01, SEP 02, SEP 04, SEP 05, SEP 07 2026
Both products carry the Canadian establishment number "EST. 1" on the side of the package, and master case boxes display health certificate 2026-S732971612. The bacon was produced on June 9, 10, 12, 13, and 15, 2026

Government of Canada Announces F.U.C.K. O.F.F. Initiative to Address Cross-Border Smoke Concerns
Ottawa, Ontario - July 17, 2026 -

In response to a recent letter from members of the United States Congress expressing concern about Canadian wildfire smoke and dismay at Canada's apparent lack of forest management, the Government of Canada is pleased to confirm that the message has been received loud and clear.

As a responsible neighbour and longstanding friend, Canada recognizes the importance of ensuring that smoke from Canadian wildfires does not impact the health, air quality, or outdoor enjoyment of our American friends.

Accordingly, the Government of Canada today announced the immediate launch of the Forest Undergrowth Clearing & Kindling Operation for Foreign Friends (F.U.C.K. O.F.F.) Initiative.

Beginning tomorrow at 0800 hours, every able-bodied Canadian between the ages of 16 and 65 will be drafted into the newly established Department of National Forest Tidiness.

Each participant will be issued:
• One government-approved rake
• One pair of work gloves
• One reflective safety vest e One large double-double
• A designated section of Canada's approximately 347 million hectares of forest

Participants wilbe responsible for removing leaves, pine needles, twigs, deadfall, brush, branches, mos, bark, shrubs, and any other materials deemed insufficiently tidy by congressional observers. All collected debris must be arranged into neat, bilingual piles and submitted for inspection by a federal forestry compliance officer

Additional measures under the initiative will include:
. Sweeping the Rocky Mountains • Vacuuming the boreal forest • Power-washing the Canadian Shield
• Installing smoke detectors throughout the Yukon
• Requiring all future wildfires to remain within clearl…

Been down the 101 many times but never stopped along the way. I'll have to check it out next time I'm back up there. Been in the US since 96 currently in Dayton Ohio. I have a pen and ink of my favorite spot at Kiwanis Pond in Truro, my hometown. Used be a stump 2 feet out I'd sit on for hours.

On Feb 28th, a week before we were to leave, we got a got call that my dad fell, had a massive heart attack, and hit his head. We packed up and the next day we drove 3 days from Dayton Ohio to the border at Calais Maine when we got the call that dad had just passed away. We were only 4 hours away.

I haven't posted for a bit. This month has sucked beyond imagination. We planned on driving to Nova Scotia for my grandmother's 100th birthday March 10th. She is an amazing woman who is younger than I am at 58. However, the best-laid plans are subject to change.

Laid in bed last night about 2 hrs trying to get to sleep thinking about math to bore myself to sleep. Came up with this equation: x^2 - (ABS(x) - 1)^2 - 2×ABS(x) = -1 No matter the value of integer x, the difference from one square to next is (ABS(x)×2)+1. Helluva way to get get to sleep.
