Even with the temperature almost hitting 40°C in Sheung Shui, the Red Heat Stress at Work Warning was not issued. It would be interesting to know what kind of end-of-life-on-Earth disaster it would take to issue a Black Heat Stress at Work Warning.
39.8°C recorded at 3.21pm in Sheung Shui is the highest temperature recorded in Hong Kong since the Observatory's commencement of automatic weather stations in the 1980s.
38.0°C recorded at 2.08pm is the hottest day on record at Happy Valley since AWS records began there in 2008. The previous record was 37.9°C on August 8th 2015, July 9th 2016, and July 24th 2022.
August 9th, 2026 is officially the hottest day ever recorded at Hong Kong Observatory since records began in 1884, with the mercury rising to 36.8°C at 1.20pm. The previous record at HKO was 36.6°C on August 22nd, 2017.
Current Toys "R" Us (Asia) CEO Leo Tsoi will become the new CEO Designate and Executive Director of Hang Lung Group, effective September 7th. He will become CEO on October 1st, replacing outgoing CEO Weber Lo.
