Starmer says:

I’m about to visit His Majesty the King to offer my resignation and close the book on my time as prime minister.

My work is done.

In six and a half years I took our party from a historic defeat in 2019, changed it so it was fit to face the country, and won a landslide general election victory in 2024.

Since then, it has been the privilege of my life to serve you and this great country as prime minister, and I am confident that Britain is now stronger and fairer than it was two years ago.

Our economy is stronger. Our public services are on the up, with the biggest fall in waiting times for 17 years.

Children are being lifted out of poverty every single day.

Immigration is down significantly.

Our defence and security are on a far stronger footing, and our international reputation is greatly enhanced.

Never has a man been in such abject denial of the hateful, embittered, and divisive legacy he leaves behind. The Prime Minister of race riots and toilet police. Good riddance to Keir Starmer. May history judge him as harshly as he deserves.

We face a world now where our enemies will stop at nothing to divide us because of our values, our freedom, our decency, and frankly, because of our unflinching resolve towards the brave people of Ukraine.

And so, under this attack, it is vital that we remember the greatness of the Britain all around us; that while we debate how to fix our problems, there is something we inherit from our country and our character that can give us confidence that we can change our country for the better; that we can create a Britain where every child can go as far as their talent will take them, and we can unite different people under our common flag if we don’t succumb to that division.

LGB views on trans people are overwhelmingly positive, especially among queer women. JKR only spends time with the weirdo loners who no one else in the community likes, and take out their loneliness on the rest of their old community through a life dedicated to hate campaigning.

If there’s a daily media pile-on saying that I’m dishonest on this, that or the other, it leaves me in a position of paralysis. So I’ve done this to try and break that.

The extent of the co-ordination of the pile-on had left us slightly in a state of paralysis – that could have gone on for months. What if [the parliamentary commissioner for standards, who is investigating the donation] doesn’t answer until October?

The new UK Health Secretary reassuring Telegraph journalists that he's transphobic enough for them. Why did he change his mind? Because throwing trans people under the bus is cheap politics for the Labour Party.

Kathleen Stock openly salivating at the idea of using the English conversion practices bill to sue trans-supportive families and charities. Something we might see more of in its current form than action against actual conversion practices.

But not much has been said about one unexpected implication of the bill: that conversion practices involving straight people are just as harmful as those involving gay or trans ones. The intention to cause a heterosexual or “cis” person to become homosexual or trans is to be treated in just as draconian a manner as the inverse case. In theory at least, progressive parents who preach the gospel of gender affirmation a little too enthusiastically risk criminal investigation later, when their children have second thoughts — a possibility which, you have to admit, is darkly funny. The idea that there might also be criminal liability for the hundreds of lanyard-wearing youth workers out there, still working very hard to cement the idea of medical and social transition into deeply unworldly heads, is even more delicious.

"Being homophobic, and wanting gay people to have less rights than you" rebranded as "having a conscience" in the latest PR spin for bigotry.

Forbes said that in commentary about her leadership bid "my experience of managing the nation's budget as finance secretary, or having the largest electoral majority of any parliamentarian, was less important apparently than - shocker of shockers - having a conscience".

Homophobe at far-right event fails to stand up against islamophobia in another shocking and unexpected development that in no way reveals her character.

At one point, Anderson claimed that Forbes had been treated "grossly unfairly" due to her Christian beliefs.

Speaking about Yousaf, he went on to say the SNP leadership contest had gone "in favour of somebody who was probably every bit as committed to those views, and even more hardline, but happened to be of a different faith".

Anderson added: "Let's be honest, he was a Muslim."

This statement went unchallenged by Forbes.

*Goes digging into my old dissertation* Here it is! There's actually a stronger basis under Islamic theology for support for democratic movements and power from below than most major religions. Tunisia in 2011 is a strong example of Islamic democratic principles in politics.

This fear may well be justified, but the large Islamist parties which have formed the
governments of Egypt and Tunisia, and are present in coalition in Libya, are moderate ones. Salafist
parties may be strong, but remain smaller minorities. Although these moderate parties support
interpretations of Sharia law, how this law interacts with democracy may be far from the perception
of a western audience. The theologian Yusuf al-Qaradawi set out a recent fatwa underlining this
compatibility. He defined democracy as: “a system of governance whereby the people choose who
will govern and represent them”, involving a law limiting the ruler and embodying the “principle of
majority rule.” (ibid. 40)
Most significantly, he underlined the five core values of Islam, which may surprise a western
audience. They are: “justice, freedom, equality, consultation/participation, and
accountability/responsibility”, and he lists them as amongst the Islamic ideas which can guide,
rather than dictate, an Islamic democracy. With this surprisingly liberal interpretation of Islam and
democracy, is must be seen how in Egypt and Tunisia these values have been presented.

This success could not have been more evidenced than in the words of the new rulers of
Tunisia. In his inauguration speech the new Tunisian President, Moncef Marzouki paid tribute to
the importance of popular will in the new Tunisian parliament, “this place which embodies the
sovereignty of the people” against the “tyrants who forgot that the will of the people is second to
none but the will of Allah.” With this statement he also paid tribute to the importance of political
Islamism. This sentiment was echoed by his Prime Minister, Hamadi Jebali, who declared that
“despite the challenges, our country has preserved its civil character and attachment to democratic
principles, all based on an Islamic reference.” Unlike their Egyptian counterparts, and with
surprising political wisdom, this all came after both made a decisive statement in support of
republican democracy:
Marzouki: “Our mission is to lay deep and solid foundations [...] to build a civil democratic
republic and a tolerant pluralistic society which will eventually fully embody the principles of
freedom, justice, and equality.” “We must protect the women who don the niqab and the hijab, as
well as the women who wear no veils. We must protect the demonstrators as well as the institutions
against which they demonstrate.”
Jebali emphasised “freedom as a fundamental value and the sanctity of human rights."

Minister unwise to write unauthorised article about home secretary's immigration reforms - whip
In other news, the home secretary, Shabana Mahmood, has demanded one of her ministers, Mike Tapp, be sacked after he wrote an unauthorised article in the Times calling for overseas care workers to be exempt from her hardline immigration changes.

Downing Street has resisted immediately sacking Tapp, the immigration minister, who is accused of breaching the ministerial code by his actions.

Justice minister and whip Jake Richards told Times Radio this morning that it would ultimately be up to the prime minister, Keir Starmer, whether to sack Tapp, but said it was unwise for the minister to “freestyle” in the way he did.

The ministerial code says the principle of collective responsibility requires that ministers should be able to express their views frankly in the expectation they can argue freely in private while maintaining a united front when decisions have been reached.

A source close to Mahmood said: “Mike Tapp is expected to be sacked for breaching the ministerial code. He has taken possible ideas that the home secretary and her team were working on, and briefed them as his own to try to win a job in the new administration.”

In response to the ongoing controversy, immigration minister Mike Tapp, who was a strong backer of Keir Starmer, wrote in a post on X this morning:

Ok, morning all. It’s gone from ‘he broke the ministerial code’ to ‘he stole my idea’.

I have put my views across on a policy I’ve been working on for months (I have the receipts) in an Op Ed in the times. Give it a read, and let’s continue to discuss.

I won’t be intimidated to drop my views. Stay classy! Oh and I’m at a wedding in San Francisco, but happy to talk more when I’m back (I promise that’s the Golden Gate Bridge hidden by the fog).

An absolutely iron-cast case that chasing Reform votes is a dead end and Labour's path to survival is in reuniting the left block. That's the only policy platform that makes any electoral sense.

But he says in the byelection the left bloc and the right bloc were much the same size as they were in Makerfield at the 2024 general election. The movement was within those blocs, not between those blocs, he says.

Keir Starmer has never spoken to an LGBTQ+ or neurodivergent child in a small community who only found people like them online, people who understood them and made them feel like they weren't alone. Not that he would ever care to, as destroying their lives offline is already a Governing hobby.

Starmer said his son was 17 and his daughter 15. She would be affected by the ban, he accepted. He said her views on this policy were “slighly mixed”.

But he and his wife Victoria had always wanted their children to be happy and confident, or happy and safe, he said.

But social media does not make children happier, he said.

Starmer said he knew that Russell was concerned that a straightforward ban would not deal with the problem of what content is available. He said, as well as the ban, the government was also putting in place measures for under-18s dealing with stranger engagement and live streaming. He said he thought those measures addressed some of Russell’s concerns.

This explains a lot, actually - wants to remain cosy with the tech firms by refusing to regulate or sanction them for the way their platforms do harm kids. But happy to destroy the online communities of kids whilst allowing those tech firms to continue doing harm as much as they please.

Q: Are you worried about how Big Tech and the US will respond?

Starmer said he was “a fan of tech” and he regarded himself as pro-tech.

I think it can be pro-AI and tech, which I am, but, at the same time, protecting our children, which I am for too, are not incompatible. They’re not mutually exclusive. I think they go together.

And actually, talking to the big tech companies, they know very well that they and all of us have a responsibility to protect children.
