hold on one more thought: trucy also might not completely blame zak for leaving her, and if she remembers giving phoenix the forged evidence when she was little, she might blame herself for it. especially given her reaction when apollo “took a break” during dd (which. not her fault genuinely it isn’t her fault but guilt doesn’t have to make sense) ALSO like even if zak did visit trucy again like… i don’t know if trucy knows what she’d say to him. and i think because of that she wouldn’t want to have the feys channel him? like what do you say to him. what if she said the wrong things. what if she messes up. fuck

(which, is the only time we see that particular sprite.) that being said, i think she still has a lot of Negative feelings toward him??? he abandoned her, he tried to make her new father lose his job (again!), and he didn’t even try to see her (which to be fair, it’s complicated!); but thats a hard thing to forgive. and maybe she’s upset with herself for that. that she doesn’t know how to feel about it. he wasn’t always terrible to her, but he’s done things that are incredibly hard to forgive. and maybe she never will forgive him for that. she’d be right either way. (i’m personally team she would not, but that’s beside the point.) i think trucy loves the idea of him more than… the actual zak. she loves the memory. the magician. but she can’t love the father.

and then phoenix. phoenix didn’t have the same history with zak. he was simply a client of his, but it’s still incredibly complicated. throughout the flashbacks in aa4, (not the present day portion of his investigations) phoenix seemed to care less about himself and more about zak’s situation. he knew zak was innocent, or rather, he genuinely still believed in his innocence, and would tell people that (i remember drew misham trying to apologize to him, and he simply told him to apologize to his client instead). zak made a bad situation worse. zak didn’t try to fight for his innocence and ran instead. zak didn’t offer the real diary page. zak didn’t even tell phoenix anything about the case prior to the trial. zak left his daughter behind. zak had the gall to try to ruin phoenix’s reputation-

even more than it already had, knowing that phoenix was raising trucy, and after asking phoenix for some favors (tell trucy and apollo about each other, give trucy the gramarye rights.). and phoenix did say “you could say he’s the man who ruined my life” and maybe he felt a bit of jealousy in regards to how trucy saw him when she was little. the way trucy looked up to him. phoenix has all the right in the world to hate this guy’s guts. and yet… he still wanted to prove his innocence. maybe because of trucy, maybe because it would help his reputation too, or maybe he just felt guilty; but he still did it. he didn’t show zak’s false confession to anyone but valant, and valant finally relented and revealed the truth to the world

and once again; trucy. trucy loved zak, phoenix would not have trucy without zak. phoenix can’t completely hate the person who brought him trucy, right? even if the circumstances weren’t great, how could he hate him for that? and how could he face trucy if he hated her other father? like it or not, he’s part of the puzzle that makes up trucy . no, he isn’t the biggest zak gramarye fan. no, i don’t think he would have let him take trucy back (unless she really, really, really wanted to go back). but he can’t completely hate him, either. how could he hate the man who was so fundamental to his light at such a young age? (i do think she has much more of phoenix in her now, i doubt she’d remember much of zak anyway since she was so young)

since it’s father’s day, i feel compelled to repost this old #aceattorney thread i made on twitter a few years ago about trucy, phoenix, and zak/shadi 1/?

“listen. i don’t think trucy hates zak. and i don’t think phoenix like… hates him a lot either. it’s a messy, complicated feeling that they have regarding him (no this is not an apology post for him this is just me saying “oh boy those feelings are a Lot”)
Trucy looked up to him a lot when she was little even before he disappeared and loved him so much. she hung his photo up on a wall that she knew she would see practically every day so she wouldn’t forget what he looked like. she talked to it, too.
We don’t know how long she waited for him to come back for her, or how long she wanted him to do that. we unfortunately don’t get to see how she reacted to his murder either, all we got was phoenix mentioning being the only one who knows how she feels (cut to her crying)
