Visit exotic Edmonton with Marie Jenner! In this fast-paced paranormal mystery, amateur sleuth Marie Jenner tries--one more time with feeling--to pull her life together. The only problem? There's never a ghost around when you want one. www.kobo.com/ca/en/ebook/...
(it has occurred to me that Waverly Jones is just a mobile, modern version of Nero Wolfe ... lol, omg @skyladawn.ca , geez I like detectives who hate people)
--because I love those characters & want to spend time with them, even though I know whodunnit! (and this is why I so love Waverly Jones. She's a character I love & would read about her grocery trips--look, I've been trying to convince Skyla to write Waverly food reviews, lol)
20. What do I look for in a book? Good characters. A gripping plot is fun, too, but I re-read books that have characters I love. Which is why some mysteries are my comfort reads--Christie & Stout in particular+
19. Most disliked popular books. 50 Shades of Gray. Twilight. Outlander. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Here, a picture of a book I *do* like:
18. Do I like historical books? What time period? Yes. lol Regency, Victorian, Edwardian are my faves. A recent read, The Secret Countess by Eva Ibbotson, was very enjoyable. (Original title: Countess Below Stairs) Good things happen to good people in this book, & I adored it.
17. Top 5 Children's Books: (picture or chapter??) The Monster at the End of This Book, starring... Grover; The Book with No Pictures by B.J. Novak; Professor Wormbog in Search for the Zipperump-A-Zoo by Mercer Mayer; Little Bear by Else Holmelund Minarik; The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt
+ like X-Files, you have a monster/mystery of the week in each book (don't worry! clues dropped for the series mystery in each volume). Waverly talks to the hallucination of her dead sister & drinks a lot of coffee. You'll love her. The Killing Beach is book 1. We meet the quirky town, our+
15. Recommend and review a book. Let me spread the good word about Waverly Jones, Private Investigator. She hates everyone. She is smart & competent. She thinks all the snarky things you wished you could say. Over arching series mystery is the serial killer who murdered her sister, but +
14. Do I mark or dog ear books I own? I used to, I do not anymore. I am chaotic good in terms of minding my page. I only wrote in books during university.
12. Did I enjoy any compulsory high school reading? Yes! The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne; Catch-22 by Joseph Heller; To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee; Macbeth by Shakespeare; Long Day's Journey Into Night by Eugene O'Neill; Hamlet by Shakespeare; and numerous short stories.
8. First book I remember reading myself tbh, I don't know. I was always reading. Another picture book from my childhood, The Elves and the Shoemaker. I had a bunch of Ladybird fairytale books
7. Series or book that got me reading I don't remember a time I wasn't reading, but I do remember this series, Sweet Pickles. I *adored* them.
