I called out “Gibson!” to our mostly-still-wild male cardinal. He came flying in HOT and skidded to a stop on the workbench. He really loves his walnuts! Here he is giving the side eye in an oldish photo. (Tagging fellow cardinal lover @grousehollow.bsky.social whose bird photos I always enjoy.)
Sarah Elfreth has a shameful voting record in the House plus she takes AIPAC money. Thankfully we have a proper progressive champion ready to take her seat, and he can absolutely win. Vote for Austin Dyches for MD District 3 in the MD primary on June 23!
By strange coincidence, I decided to rewatch “Fire of Love” today not realizing it was the 35th anniversary of the Mt Unzen eruption that killed Maurice and Katia Krafft.
I’m nostalgic for the mossy forests of Maine. The week-long moss seminar at Eagle Hill Institute in Maine (which I’ve attended twice now) was very special.
As someone crazy enough to drive solo up to Maine for a week-long moss seminar, this family’s moss love is totally relatable!! Here’s my abstract sketch of Hedwigia ciliata committed to fabric; it’s one of my favorite mosses because of its bright green tips!
Use the powerful tool created by @projectsaltbox.bsky.social to locate planned ICE detention facilities in your area. And declare publicly—ideally from a nearby overpass!—that you don’t want iceholes in your state.
The planned Hagerstown, MD ICE detention facility and what we mere mortals can do to prevent the plans moving forward.
CHINGA LA MIGRA. It’s hard for me to describe how much defiant joy sprung from today’s overpass message. Passengers hanging out the window whooping and hollering. Someone waving their hard hat. Many genuine smiles. @visibilitybrigade.bsky.social
Rogue Squadron and friends braved high wind and wind chill warnings for a 2-hr Bridge and Brunch at Gorman Rd overpass over I-95. The flags flapped furiously as we waved and danced to a predominantly punk playlist.
8 days, 8 themes, 8 chances to protest! Gorman Rd Overpass Protest Marathon, February 6-13, 2026. Rubber chicken says “be there!”
I don’t care what people call this storm—Fern and what not. It’s the Snow Shit Abyss.
Let’s do all of it! Sustained, bold protests remind the people they aren’t alone and hopefully give them courage to become activists. Sustained pressure at the seats of power helps hold back authoritarian advances so we can start reclaiming some power.
I will miss our spicy overpass messages about Avelo from our Avelo Takedown dance parties, but our crew will still be up there on the overpasses dancing joyfully and defiantly against fascism. Solidarity with everyone on the front lines!
GREAT NEWS! Avelo is ending its contract with ICE for deportation flights. Proof that protests, boycotts, and political pressure work.
That’s my people!! Gorman Rd overpass over I-95 in North Laurel, MD. Bummed I couldn’t be with them today. We also do the occasional light brigade like SANTA HATES ICE. (New messages coming in 2026).
