Aaaand my final card for the Marvel MtG set. This is probably my favorite piece I’ve over painted with acrylics. I love the supernatural spiritualism in the Black Panther mythos. I tried to approach this scene with the respect the narrative deserved. 12x16, acrylics and oils on board. #mtgmsh
I gotta be honest, I wasn’t too familiar with Max Borne, the Spider-Man from the year 2211. But when I learned I had the honor of painting a character designed by Mike Wieringo, this assignment was pure joy. And I think that comes through in the final. The original is up for auction until Sunday!
As of this set release, I finally have over 100 Magic Cards in print! That’s a pretty cool milestone to me for some reason.
Quick morning warmup. Just flexing some different muscles today by practicing some life-painting techniques. Just trying to capture shapes without constructing the forms first. Might start doing these studies in oils.
