Tomorrow is a BIG day for all New Yorkers, especially paras and their students. All eyes are on the City Council. At 10:30 a.m., the Labor Committee votes whether to vote the para RESPECT check bill out of committee. If that happens, the bill will be voted by the full Council at 1:30 p.m.
Our paras provide critical services in our schools! Helping with behavior management, special education, instructional support and MUCH more. They deserve RESPECT. This is OUR week to get the RESPECT check done for them‼️ We won't stop fighting until it's done. And we WON’T stop fighting for them.

Paraprofessionals are struggling with bills, groceries, necessities. It simply shouldn't be this way. Paras need pay that reflects the work they do for our educators, students and schools. It's a matter of RESPECT! Way to go, Christine and TreVaughn, for leading the way with your voices.
July is Disability Pride Month! At the UFT, we fight for members and students of ALL abilities. Your rights will be protected and your needs respected at work. Our union is here to support you in that!
School is out but our fight for the paraprofessional RESPECT check is still on. The July 16 City Council stated meeting is when council members are expected to vote our bill out of committee and put it to a full vote.
UFT offices are open this summer with modified hours. No matter how you’re spending the summer – because you're retired or don't get a break from working or even education – we’re here for you!

This Pride Month, we’re celebrating Daniel Dromm, former NYC Councilmember and public school educator! Born in Rego Park, Queens, on November 27, 1955, Dromm started his career as a teacher at PS 199 in Queens in the mid-1980’s.
