This was a vote on whether to advance the whole NDAA (not a standalone vote on the Israel provision), and it failed 50-46. Every Democrat voted against cloture, and every Republican voted for it, so no Democrats voted yes here.

AIPAC, a pro-Israel lobbying network, recently made its largest ever earmarked contribution to Hakeem Jeffries' joint fundraising committee. Shortly afterward, Jeffries announced he would oppose Rep. Thomas Massie's amendment that would cut off roughly $3.3 billion in U.S. aid to Israel, arguing the amendment was too broad and could also affect humanitarian, diplomatic, and other programs.

Jeffries serves as the House Democratic Leader in the US House of Representatives. Since 2023, he has been the highest ranking Democrat in the House and is considered one of the most powerful figures in the Democratic Party.

If politicians consistently receive large sums from organizations that have strong policy goals, how can the public distinguish between genuine conviction and incentive-driven alignment?
