Indeed. Where we stayed, Port d'Alcúdia, there's an unusual area, which has to be sought out, as it's away from the tourist strip. Housing with canals between parallel roads, formerly drainage channels. One of these is the "Grand Canal".
The bus ride from Alcúdia to Cap Formentor on Mallorca has some similarities. The lighthouse destination is somewhat underwhelming, though.
"You join us here at the Erinsborough General Hospital, where any moment now…" It probably didn't say that, but the headline kinda implies that if was something like that.
"I drank olive oil for a month, and I said I've never felt better. What did I say, Roy?" "You said you could shit through the eye of a needle." H/t The Fast Show/Caroline Ahern
The picture-postcard village of Beuvron-en-Auge, Normandy, yesterday. It was hot – over 30°C.
Nobody in their right mind would order something suggested by this pair of AI zombies. "Waste of technology", MrsP suggests – and data centre water. Ad in The Day Beast (Apple News).
In indestructible packaging – possibly plasticised PVC. Found this one in our garden several years ago. The price on it of 2D (two pence) indicates it was made/sold before February 1971, when the UK changed to decimal currency. "D" became written as "p".
Death Valley Monday. Sign claims 55°C, but fortunately actual temperature is a chilly 33°C.* Moyaux, in Normandy, n. France. * That's 131°F and 91°F in old money.
The French end of the Greenwich Meridian at Villers-sur-Mer, Normandy. In the distance (OK, over the horizon) it makes landfall 101 miles away, at Peacehaven in East Sussex.
Sculpture in Honfleur, Normandy, by Bruno Catalano. The third plinth has a large holdall and boots with legs that finish just above the ankles. There are several others others in the town: a man similar to the LH one, and a horse in the same style.
UK Government announces slimmed-down budget for Northern Rail Powerhouse scheme:
Britain's new secret weapon, the Ainscough C1, prepares for takeoff in Portsmouth harbour.
Ditto Hatch Beauchamp. And in Devon, with helpful "This is what the locals call it":
"It's AI, Jim, and it's complete and utter crap." Zombie 1 (left) appears in an almost identical pose in another ad. Zombie 2 is a new one. Ad on Apple News, but why is anybody's guess.
I'm no expert, but this cross-eyed makeup artist has the look of thrift-shop/pound shop AI. As does his victim.😉 Ad on Apple News.
Can't help thinking that if the Reflecting Pool was stood on end, all the water would fall out. Also if size is important, the National Rowing Lake near Nottingham, UK, is 2000 metres long (6561 feet).
The eastern end of Lake Luzern, near Sisikon, going north by train towards Schwyz. From Seelisburg (visited in 2011) over on the left hand hill, there are drone-like views down to the lake.
Wassen on the railway between Italy and Switzerland using the old/shorter Gotthard tunnel. About here, the train goes north into a spiral tunnel on the left side, emerges lower down facing south, then into another tunnel: it comes out facing north. Which I think we were doing here.
Mountain(ish) scenery along the route of the Centovalli Railway – Domodossola in northern Italy to Locarno in Switzerland. Reflections on the train windows were a bit of a nuisance.
You're nipping out for bread and a six-pack of Bud, so best to take your dog and a loaded shotgun to be on the safe side. (From the Daily Beast)
Slightly energetic afternoon. Walked up steep steps and twisting roads to Stresa viewpoint over Lake Maggiore. Looking up the lake in the direction of Locarno (which is round a corner or two, and then some).
Evening in Stresa (IT). Looking south over Piazza Liugi Padorno. Down below, a man is playing jazz on a saxophone – mostly from the 1960s: Girl from Ipanema, etc. "Take Five" is probably coming up later. If there was jazz before or after the 60s, nobody knows what it was/is.
