Have you noticed the weather is changing at last? It’s almost as though an icy wind is blowing across the country. Only Connect returns, tonight at 8 pm on BBC Two.
I’ve always found the dietary concept of “a square or two of dark chocolate” incredibly depressing. That’s not a treat! Might as well be a couple of radishes.
If your target market is the kind of person who wants to read about the royal family in OK magazine (which, I don’t mind telling you, I AM), I think this is quite an odd way to go with the headline.
“North Wales” is a strange choice. If the guy’s mother is in North Wales, so he is presumably FROM North Wales, he is really unlikely to be wearing those clothes.
I am hosting Have I Got News For You tonight! Ian‘s guest is Bella Hull and Paul‘s guest is Karl Turner MP. There’s something for everyone, by which I mean, everyone who is interested in the Labour Party or football. 9pm on BBC One.
What’s lovely is that you can also get this with whipped cream, plus a sprinkle of statins on top for crunch.
Like many many other people tonight, I suspect, we’re settling down to have our dinner in front of an old episode of Planet Earth. He was only 80 when he made this one! A stripling! Happy birthday Sir David 🍾
The implication of this speech bubble seems to be: “Vote Labour to support Keir Starmer, as the alternative is worse”. There is a logic to that, but wouldn’t have expected it from the Mail!
What a lovely day at the Phoenix Comic festival. Brilliant to see the artists up close, and even better to be reminded how excited children STILL ARE by reading, writing and drawing ✍️
Without a doubt, my TV highlight of the year - possibly decade.
My little daughter: “Wow! Look! A toddler has won TWO World Records for playing snooker!” My husband: “That’s a foul. You’re supposed to keep one foot on the ground at all times.”
Like many people, I was impressed and excited by the story of the bus driver who chased a mugger, punched him in the face, then knocked him down and sat on him for half an hour waiting for the police. But I would say that this analysis, by Boris Johnson, is a bit of a stretch. *WWJD?*
But mine comes FREE with the licence fee! All you have to do is cut them out and stitch them together. Paradise Lost concludes tomorrow night, after the Only Connect final, 8pm on BBC Two.
Winter Wonderland is great this year, but I must say there’s a terrible wait to use the phone.
Yes! That’s my gambling problem in a nutshell: I need a hand!
I think I must have previously misunderstood the meaning of “wicker”.
How come primary school children are encouraged to go to school in costumes, but secondary school children aren’t? Anybody who thinks that 11 (or 13, or 35) is “time to grow up”, is profoundly wrong. happy Halloween!
Today’s NYT Connections game brought back happy memories of Christmas 2024. Honestly, these coincidences mount up and up.
Life advice: never leave your phone microphone on while writing a work email in case you discover AFTER HAVING SENT IT that it took note of a conversation one of your children was having in the background.
How do they get AWAY with this? I mean, however American your accent might be, PRUSSIAN?!
… or was that just a hurried explanation when the police burst in?
Following yesterday’s column, I’ve received this spam. My usual gloomy trepidation about our communications being overheard and monitored by the mysterious Big Brother of techno-capitalism are tempered by the evidence that at least it got completely the wrong end of the stick.
Not bad for a first attempt! (my Netflix series starts next week)
You can understand Lauren Sanchez having her phone out here. She must have worried the occasion wouldn’t otherwise be recorded.
As I just explained on TV, the tiny crossword visible in tonight’s opening shot was created by our brilliant team member Dan Peake and CAN BE PLAYED! To save you copying it off the television, here are photos of both these simple and cryptic versions. Happy New Year! We love you. #OnlyConnect
HERE'S SOME EXCITING NEWS. This Christmas, we have made EIGHT Only Connect specials! Starting Monday night at 8pm, then 8.15 on Christmas Eve, and 8pm most nights from Boxing Day: a range of themes, wonderful returning teams, and some really lovely episodes. Merry Quizmas!
