The art establishment in Canada despises realist painters. They are quasi intellectuals who have fine tuned their BS to such a degree that they have convinced themselves that 3 stripes on a huge canvas is superior to any realist painting. This US work was bought by the NGC for 1.8 million in 1989.
Fun historical fact. The man who invented the modern flush toilet in 1861 was named Thomas Crapper. His legacy lives on in the millions of "crappers" still in use today along with the word crap. Rumour has it that his descendants changed their last name.
