In a moment, Thyst will be gone too. Again. Gone back to that tucked away place inside him. Gone back to that faceless voice that leaves him wondering if he's long since cracked.Ani bows his head beneath the weight of a wide palm, scowls when it whispers down over cheek and jaw and fingers curl to lift his chin."I will always be here when you call."I hadn't, he doesn't say. The words are pinned somewhere against a rib. I hadn't. Stuck fast and sharp in his throat. Ani swallows them back down. Thyst is gone before he can try again and he's left standing alone at the base of the cliff. There's a body somewhere, or what's left of one; he makes a point of not looking for it. There's an upset of earth and stone around him. There's the forest beyond, gone quiet and still. I hadn't, he thinks, and makes an ugly sound, more sob than laugh, when something warm uncurls in the place he carved out to make room.
