I'm a writer. I don't believe in voices for the voiceless. Abolish the conditions of voicelessness instead. Books include The Sympathizer, The Committed, A Man of Two Faces, The Refugees, and To Save and to Destroy: Writing as an Other.
Reality for Palestinians is like how Hollywood's science fiction dystopias depict an alien invasion. We're not supposed to feel sympathy for alien invaders. Why are we supposed to feel sympathy for Israel? Or the United States, for that matter, which does exactly the same thing to many countries.
I hope this person found the handsome stranger reading The Sympathizer, a man of impeccable taste. thanks to my friend Crystal Parikh for seeing this in New York City's Missed Connections missed.you/nyc
@msrachelforlittles is more popular than Israel, and that’s as it should be. Love over hate, compassion over genocide, sharing over colonization, children over fascists
What if we went to war and didn’t have enough ammunition? Idiots.
These three posts say almost everything about what’s happening in the USA: wealth doesn’t trickle down, but cruelty at the top definitely does. The result is terrorizing Black and brown people and immigrants.
4th of July in one image from @orr_photo for @reuters…the modern KKK in Washington DC and a lone Black Woman saying it all with one look.
A snapshot of the feelings the Vietnamese community has for me. Thanks, Mai Nguyen! Meanwhile, Hoàng Nha previously called me an "uneducated scoundrel," but I like "naturally rude and uncultivated" as well.
I got to edit Best American Short Stories 2026. Much thanks to series editor @nicole.a.lamy, who read thousands of stories before giving me one hundred and twenty of them. From those, I chose this list of twenty exceptional stories. Available now from @marinerbooks.
I want a world that respects justice so I’m supporting @PublicCounsel’s auction celebrating AAPI history month with the chance to Zoom visit with me OR a signed copy of my book Simone to help fund their vital civil rights & social justice work. Bid by 5/21 www.Charitybuzz.com/publiccounsel
The US is basically waging war against Cuba with a blockade…for no good reason except enmity.
This is one of the reasons why I thought Park Chan-wook was perfect as co-showrunner for THE SYMPATHIZER (especially if you remember Wim Wenders' less than inspiring comments at the Berlinale about art and politics as needing to be separate, after he was asked about his opinion about Gaza).
If I had an Israeli character in one of my novels celebrate his birthday with a cake with a noose, I’d be called antisemitic.
See you in Riverside, California, next Friday May 3 at 3PM for UC Riverside's Writers Week. Did you know I did my freshman year at UC Riverside? writersweek.ucr.edu writersweek.ucr.edu/schedule2026
Hung Cao and I are the same age. We are both Vietnamese refugees. I take no pride in this man’s accomplishments. I loathe his antiblackness and his full embrace of MAGA white supremacist Christian nationalism. Vietnamese people, you have a choice. Don’t choose to be like this.
I'll be in Honolulu next Thursday to do events and speak at 'Iolani School as their Keables Scholar. I'll give a talk (most likely on living inside empire during a time of perpetual war) and take questions beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Don't miss it!
This Thursday on ÁCCENTED: Two Vietnamese women trailblazers join me and Philip Nguyen to discuss work and life in the public eye. Don’t miss it! 📆 Thursday, April 16 ⏰ 6PM PT / 9PM ET 🎙️ Hosted by Viet Thanh Nguyen & Philip Nguyễn 🔗 Register at bit.ly/ACCENTED55
I wonder if Gideon Levy feels lonely, being so right about what’s going on.
I don’t often get to the genius level. Like it that the last two words I got were elide and diddle.
Tucker Carlson has more guts than Kamala Harris. Not endorsing him. He's said many reprehensible things. But on Iran, he's going against his own ideological world, which is risky for him. Harris risks nothing being against a Trump war. She would be courageous if
People don’t like being bombed, and they don’t like the people bombing them.
I guess @92ndstreety looked a little closer at who they were inviting to speak. Deflecting onto “immigration” instead. A classical liberal move—we support genocide but we also support immigrants, so the latter absolves the former. Thanks to @danpsheehan for pointing out all this to begin with.
The 92NY canceled my appearance in late October 2023 after I signed a ceasefire letter and reiterated my support for BDS. But they're ok with having this gentleman, Ilya Shapiro, who seems to like genocide and is vocal about it.
