Wow. I saw Sessa in Brooklyn last night - an absolute balm for the soul.
In honor of Sister Rosetta Tharpe’s birthday, a poem about keeping the faith in her music.
From Dale Pendell’s “Pharmakopoeia: Power Plants, Poison and Herbcraft”
I’m so excited to visit London next week for Poetry on Drugs: Language, Dreaming, and the Coming Revolution Symposium - I’m reading and giving a talk on Joanne Kyger and Dale Pendell called “My Years as a Cultural Stoner.”
It’s been a long time since I wrote something that required a works cited page, but this one is practically a spiritual autobiography:
Remembering my pilgrimage to The Village Recorder in Santa Monica, where Fleetwood Mac made “Tusk” - the crazy part is that the police station is right next door - phew, the sheer amount of Colombian that went up noses in that place, not to mention the tones! The tones! The timbres! A holy place.
Went to London to see My Bloody Valentine. They broke the sound barrier at least three times
It really returns me to the wonder of great art. Much crazier and goofier than “Kwaidan” (my other favorite movie) but just as dazzling
Damn. D’Angelo was a genius who had so much more music ahead of him. Thank you for everything.
Next Saturday in San Francisco, I’m reading for Catherine’s book release - can’t wait!
“We don’t need no fascist groove thing!” Jarvis Cocker and LCD Soundsystem do Heaven 17 for the Americans to hold on to at the Hollywood Bowl!
A great installing a new piece I’m working on with my dear collaborator Sameer Farooq and the brand new Gibson Art Museum in Vancouver BC - it’s quite large and weird! If you’re in town the opening is this Saturday! Canada…it’s very nice.
Ah. It has been so great to be outside the United States. Nearly every other country thinks of poets as real and important and not just a bunch of weirdo losers.
When I think of the artist who had the most impact on my life, there is only one person who comes to mind: Brian Wilson. Thank you so much for all that harmony and wonder. He gave me so much.
Just back from a week of super intense work in Toronto with my dear collaborator Sameer Farooq- we have a piece going up in Vancouver in September.
