I haven't watched footage of the whole thing yet, but you're not really selling the "great comeback". For example, just look at this - it might have worked, but there's no way this would have survived re-entry from a higher orbit as it barely survived the current test.
That's paywalled. Also the report doesn't indicate anything at this point - it only state facts so far, including chat between the pilots about it. Unless there's further details uncovered later that confirm the suicide theory, at this point any claims like that are premature.
That's what a pad *shouldn't* look like - always assume that anything built by Musk-owned companies is wrong. For comparison, look at the SpaceX pad in Cape Canaveral, that has to get approval from NASA. The round tank is Liquid Oxygen; notice how it is behind a partial wall, for example.
It's a pity that I'm both not a big fan of popcorn and don't have any anyway at home...
