If more people liked "A Tale of Two Cities" as much as I did when I read it, and if there was a film adaptation so popular that everybody would recognize a GIF from it of whoever played Madame Defarge knitting...hoo boy would I be posting that GIF every day or two.

Madame Defarge is the primary antagonist in Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities, a vengeful revolutionary in Paris during the French Revolution who knits a secret register of aristocrats to be executed. Driven by a desire for revenge against the Evrémonde family for the suffering of her own family, she embodies the revolution's dark, merciless side, symbolizing vengeance, fate, and the excesses of revolutionary fervor, ultimately seeking to exterminate the entire lineage, including the innocent.
