Ooh! Happy #PortfolioDay! I'm a Digital artist and animator who loves him some science and dinosaurs! I'm also currently working on the first few chapters of a fantasy multimedia story, so if you want to check that out, feel free to support my Patreon as well! Portfolio: www.whejaverse.com
BONUS) Here's some art of four of the principal characters to expect in part one. I'm looking forward to you all seeing the final product!
Happy #NationalDinosaurDay for those who observe! I know I promised something big for #Caltigara on August 1st, but I got overzealous, a lot of outside stuff happened, and not everything will be ready by then. There will definitely be something, though. Here's a Leptoceratops to tide you over.
I wasn't able to get this ready in time for #IndieAnimationDay, but here's a little preview of what I've been working on recently! #ArtistOnBluesky #Blender3D #Caltigara
#Caltigara #AprilWorldbuilders Everything from the last month has been from my current project. I've had a couple of stories with big world building concepts behind them rotating on the backburner since High School, and I think I'm finally ready to get one of them out.
#Caltigara #AprilWorldbuilders One other reason that Thyrokh written language is so new (alongside their poor value vision) is that they're still very literal-minded. The establishment of trade means that they can grasp abstract concepts, but only have a handful that they share species-wide.
Instead, some of the guard are trained as elaborate dancers and given vividly-patterned cloaks. These "cloak guard" are deployed first and flash these patterns to confuse or frighten any carnivores away from the young, disabled, or nesting. Most of the time, they're all the protection a pack needs.
For individuals, every Thyrokh knows the name of Nokhorox, the first heretic. He lived generations before our main cast, and every tribe tells the story of his betrayal differently, but his feud with the Translator was enough to divide the early clans and start a war that almost destroyed Caltigara.
That being said, they are very social animals, and they occasionally go out in troupes to hunt something more substantial. With enough planning, they can even take down something as large as an adolescent Edmontosaurus, although reports about slaying adults are unconfirmed.
#Caltigara #AprilWorldbuilders The Thyrokhys are still obligate carnivores with any plant foraging being used exclusively for textiles. They mostly hunt small animals like lizards, rodents, and eggs, and the small ceratopsian Leptoceratops is about the biggest they can fell on their own.
Some Thyrokh, especially thrill seekers and those in dangerous occupations, wear leather armor to protect vital organs. Edmontosaurus skin is thin, colorful, and easy to tan, so it's a popular choice for beginners.
Side note: their killing claws are also important as eating utensils, holding meat down and parsing it while they tear strips off with their jaws. Since all their food is technically finger food, sheathing is also important for hygiene. Art by N. Carroll
#Caltigara #AprilWorldbuilders with their characteristic "killer claw" on their feet, feathery wings, and hollow bones, the Thyrokhys are fantastic kick-boxers. Hunts and fights are fast, almost airborne.
#Caltigara #AprilWorldbuilders The main characters are all a fictional species of Velociraptorine dinosaurs called Bacatoraptor, or "Thyrokhys" in their language. They're larger, smarter, and more dextrious than similar animals.
The best real-world allegory I can find are bowerbirds who, in the modern age, even incorporate human-made trinkets in their designs. My characters, however, can make their own.
#Caltigara #AprilWorldbuilders Unlike most packs, who set base near water sources, Caltigarans focused more on being near their sacred grounds. There is a river to the south and a sizeable lake, but it's a long walk, and they're often filled with crocodiles.
Sweet! I'm a digital artist and animator who loves the natural sciences. I usually aim for realism, but I'm experimenting this year with a fantasy web series set in the late Cretaceous.
The current Translator is the most reclusive leader in the tribe’s history. He doesn’t handle emergencies well, and his constant delegation to his guards and ambiguous answers to vital questions betray his insecurities.
The first few chapters take place in the sequoia forests of the Caltigaran Tribe's hunting grounds. Life is heavily regulated, and a social structure, curfew, and hunting range are enforced by a guard class hand-selected by the tribe's religious head.
Happy #Raptor, everyone! Since the dromaeosaurid "raptor" dinosaurs play a huge role in my big project, here's a shameless self-plug! Visit www.whejaverse.com for updates.
Congrats on 6k! I also do a lot of dinosaurs. A little bit of digital painting, a little animation. I'm currently working on a big fantasy project that I think is right up your alley!
My fantasy project was getting a lot bigger than I thought it would, so I've been spent putting some key art and world building notes together into a production bible. Thought I'd show you this piece because I really like how it turned out! #Caltigara #Paleoart #DarkFantasy
Hello! I am fellow human artist. Please browse my images!
Thought I'd take some time to get myself a better logo animation. The static one I was putting at the end of my videos before was okay, but I needed a "wow" factor. #animation #blender3d
An updated test with a full feather groom and wrinkle map. I'm still on the fence as to what color the hero's coat should be. What's a good bird pattern you think of as "heroic"? Bonus points for non-raptors. #animation #paleoart
Im getting really excited with my progress! Here's a little test for the main rig for my #Caltigara series, even if the model is otherwise unready. The lips are going to remain muscle-less in the final story, but I wanted to show the range. #animation #paleoart
Happy #PortfolioDay! Most of my popular work is animated, but I have a few still images here that will work as well! I'm a 29-year-old amateur digital generalist with a love of #sciart and dinosaurs.
