Neurobiologist, portland game dev 🏳️⚧️ Making Lancer Tactics. I miss cohost. www.wick.works | wick.itch.io
hotfix hotfix getcher hotfixes here wick.itch.io/lancer-tacti... *Not* addressed here is the somewhat concerning report that on certain graphics cards the game does this. I'm so tired. Godot I know it's not your fault but I hate having to think about nvidia's latest graphics driver updates
We need some help doing technical writing/editing for Lancer Tactics' rules text! Inline glossary tagging, styling, & adapting wording when it doesn't make sense in a video game context. ~40 hours of contract work staring at google sheets; job posting is here: lancertactics.com/hiring-techn...
Worldkiller, Enkidu, Tagetes, and Kutuzov alt frames are now available in Lancer Tactics by way of a mod by the always-amazing GavstarB! Get them via the in-game mod browser or manually here: mod.io/g/lancer-tac...
We just had our first malicious upload to Lancer Tactics' mod.io directory! Somebody AI-vibe-coded a mockup of a companion editor app & provided an evil installer URL file. It's been removed, but stay on your toes. This shit looks plausible at first glance (but hilariously wrong in the details)
Lancer Tactics now officially supports mods! The newest build includes community implementations of the Caliban, Sagarmatha, NPC Rebake grunts, and more: wick.itch.io/lancer-tacti...
you should! this new little panel & properties makes it so easy to do now. Here's all code for that list on the right to do that wave-slide-in.
Godot 4.7 added visual control offsets which makes animating UI 1000x easier, so I spent the evening sprinkling it in on various screens.
Yeah, .wav files... unfortunately this also doesn't work & all my wav files still end up in the export, inexplicably. I confirmed it's them by unpacking the pck and saw them all listed.
Any #godot brained folks able to help me with this? We have audio assets in the project that get compiled to FMOD banks, so don't need to be exported. However, I've tried every method of excluding them to no avail (gdignore, export modes) and nothing works besides deleting the folder before export.
It's been three years since the three-years-of-funding Kickstarter campaign for Lancer Tactics completed. Time for a report card! www.kickstarter.com/projects/wic... Additionally, the Module Editor is live. Lancer Tactics is now equipped with essentially a miniature visual novel editor.
Oop, didn't manage this week. Writing a report card for a 3-year project was more emotionally taxing than we were expecting & need a bit more time. However, we'll also be doing a livestream celebration/Kickstarter phase wrapup for Lancer Tactics! April 15, 3-5 PST :: www.youtube.com/live/30huanm...
Today is trans day of visibility 🏳️⚧️ but more immediately for me it's also the 3-year anniversary of Lancer Tactics' Kickstarter campaign. Writing up a larger retrospective for the next backer post, but it's cool to see how far we've come since then.
found this on my desktop while changing laptops and realized I never posted it. am I too late to chase the trend (aoe2 is the grungler; included for how big an impression the map editor made on me)
imo it's wild that this basic layout for hasn't changed since godot 2.0; mode buttons up top, scene tabs right below it, and a vertical list of scripts "within" all that. I really think it could use a fundamental experienced UX rethink
here's what I mean; the script "mode" at the top is actually the top-level organization while editing scripts, so it's strange that there's such a strong organizational visual element of the scene tab between that and what you're working with.
I understand why it exists, but getting this notification from Kickstarter always makes me *so* mad. I'm literally already writing the update and you're out there obnoxiously tapping on the glass of my aquarium.
I'm improving editor performance by only redrawing the area around the changed tiles instead of the entire map every time, and accidentally invented Lancer Minesweeper
marko is generating some v cursed savefiles in the course of QA & bughunting work. improbably dense bucket of ronins.
New build for LT is live! v0.6.0 adds the last of the player talents and is coming up on halfway done for the rest of the NPC optionals. Plus some cool new FX and icons: wick.itch.io/lancer-tacti...
i have such a love/hate with #godot. I'm so glad it exists and I know other engines have problems too but I stg there's always some cursed problem that crops up right as I'm trying to release. This morning I found that our portraits are broken post-4.6 upgrade but only for the exported build.
I've adored this illustration by @badbucket.bsky.social ever since I first saw it in the lancer core book and was delighted to learn they have it available as a print 😍 :: www.inprnt.com/gallery/badb...
Scott McCloud's closure/big triangle are the concepts I reach for when thinking along these lines. More detailed = less to the imagination = can feel less real.
Happy holidays, new lancer tactics build: wick.works/devlog/pixel... The post also includes a dive in how we generate palettes and recolor our pixel art.
