Hoping to leave a footprint in the sand. Neophyte turned award-winning author. I’m (not) Elysia Dayne!
#FantasyIndiesJuly Day 24: It’s a real chicken or egg question! The setting was locked in first. It was always going to be a high fantasy in touching distance of scientific enlightenment. I didn’t give plot much of a look in. My books are nothing without the character!!!
#FantasyIndiesJuly Day 18: For the Saturday snippet, I’m just going to read from the start until I find a passage I really like. This is from chapter 1…
Okay, so I put “Escape From Titan” on pre-order. The release date is August 7th. I know, it’s a very short pre-order period. And it’s an Amazon exclusive. 🇺🇸: amazon.com/dp/B0H99J6M9Q 🇬🇧: amazon.co.uk/dp/B0H99J6M9Q 🇨🇦: amazon.ca/dp/B0H99J6M9Q 🇦🇺: amazon.com.au/dp/B0H99J6M9Q
#FantasyIndiesJuly Day 17: The stage of writing depends on the project. Book 4, “A Song of Vengeance” is about 25% done, but the prequel, “Escape From Titan” is on pre-order and will be out on August 7th!
#FantasyIndiesJuly Day 3/4/5: I’ve been coughing so much, I can’t display my lungs on the table. Day 3: Free Friday. Free to recuperate! Day 4: Snippet… “The time before is the past. The time after belongs to cold hearts without mercy.” Day 5: The sport is hunting!
#FantasyIndiesJuly Day 1 & 2: Hi! I’m Wil &I’m already behind! I’ve been as sick as a dog with Covid (again). My WIP is “Escape From Titan,” an Elysia Dayne novella, which exploded to 55k words.😅 Favourite line? 🤷🏻♂️ What I do have is a lovely chapter title! “Tu Quoque.” What does it mean?
#FantasyIndiesJuneDay 28: I don’t have any new-to-me genres that I would care to explore. I like twisting things around and merging genres, so how about a romantic horror or a cosy horror?? My books are already a mish-mash of genres!
#FantasyIndiesJune Day 25/26/27: My eye is usually off the ball by the end of the month! 25: I’d say Elysia is a responsible person who can make mistakes. 26: I decided to be free from Free Friday. 27: Snippet! I’ve reined in the purple prose. I think this is the most ornate passage in the WIP.
#FantasyIndiesJune Day 24: Elysia isn’t a storyteller… but she has told 2 stories in the books. The book 1 story was written in the style of a reminisce (where she kind of killed a dragon in single combat). In book 2, she tells an actual story around the campfire. She pulled it off!
#FantasyIndiesJune Day 22: WIP tropes? Escape From Titan: • Indomitable/Reluctant Hero • Staying Alive vs. Insurmountable Odds A Song of Vengeance: • The Impossible Choice • Revenge & Retribution • Woman in a man’s world • Forbidden Romance • Dagger to the Throat
#FantasyIndiesJune Day 20: The inciting event from the as-yet unreleased “Escape From Titan.” I wanted to present the snippet nicer, but I only got my phone at the moment..
#FantasyIndiesJune Day 17: Of you’re talking about a present day road trip, then not so great. But… the first Elysia Dayne two books are literally about a medieval road trip. Elysia & Isabella are forced into travelling the scenic route. They even bond over it. #PrideMonth
#FantasyIndiesJune Day 16: I can’t really say what inspires Elysia because it would reveal something from a future book in the series. What I will say is that she naturally tries to do good deeds, and sometimes those attempts go askew because people take advantage of her predominantly good nature.
#FantasyIndiesJune Day 15: A happy quote from the upcoming “Escape From Titan”:
#FantasyIndiesJune Day 14: Do I like maps in my books? I don’t know if I like them or not, but I don’t have maps in my books. Also, I don’t pay attention to maps in other books.
#FantasyIndiesJune Day 13: A very short snippet from the upcoming “Escape From Titan.”
It's still Pride Month, right? I updated the video a bit. The music is a metal version of the "Fallen Legacy" OST! 🚫NoAI #pridemonth2026 #sapphicreads #wlwfantasy 🇺🇸: amazon.com/dp/B09MSMJ3F7 🇬🇧: amazon.co.uk/dp/B09MSMJ3F7 🇨🇦: amazon.ca/dp/B09MSMJ3F7 🇦🇺: amazon.com.au/dp/B09MSMJ3F7
#FantasyIndiesJune Day 8: Tbh, 2026 hasn’t been kind to me, which makes it difficult to feel inspired. But… I feel inspired by other indie authors. Basically, you guys! We’re in the same trenches, and you’re turning up every day, working hard on your books and stories. Thanks!
We don't usually see each others headers. Here's mine. Quote post with yours (if you feel like it)
#FantasyIndiesJune Day 6: Saturday snippet. A damsel is in distress! #pridemonth
#FantasyIndiesJune Day 4: I’m definitely an indoor person, especially with the 35degC weather outside! Elysia is the opposite, although what can you do indoors in high fantasy times?🤷♂️ Anyway, she’s an adventurer, and adventurers gotta do what they gotta do…
#FantasyIndiesJune Day 3: Writer's block is different for everyone, so I offer no advice on it. Personally speaking, I haven't been through writer's block. My problem is I get sidetracked & have a tendency to procrastinate, even though my writing time is already condensed.
Time to celebrate Pride Month with Elysia! It took a bit of time to cut this video using original artworks. The music is a metal version of the "Fallen Legacy" OST. Enjoy the video! Spread the love! Comments welcome! 🚫NoAI🌈 #PrideMonth2026 #sapphicreads #wlwfantasy Link: wilchanwrites.com/books
#FantasyIndiesMaytober Day 25: Therapy? Where do I start? Elysia definitely suffers from PTSD and there has been one instance of dissociative disorder. If you read to the end of the series, I don’t think any modern day therapist would be able to untangle what’s inside her head.
#FantasyIndiesMaytober Day 23: “Escape From Titan” begins right after the dragon-slaying event in “Under an Azure Sky,” from the chapter “Tales of the Grey.” Elysia is invited back to Titan City, where she has been exonerated of murdering a noble. And she has to choose a horse!
#FantasyIndiesMaytober Day 21: The villains are glossed over in my books because it’s entirely from Elysia’s viewpoint. Obviously, they have (or had) their own lives and family. e.g. I have a full backstory for book 1 villain, Varya… enough to fill a book 🤔🤨
#FantasyIndiesMaytober Day 20: Characters in the higher echelons would want power over knowledge because they can hire people with knowledge to do their bidding. Elysia understands that she can do more with wealth and power, but not at the expense of knowledge.
#FantasyIndiesMaytober Day 19: I never thought about it in absolute terms, but in Ashes of Eden, by stopping the villain, Elysia may have inadvertently saved humanity. If you’re one of the very few people who have read it, you’ll know who the villain is…
#FantasyIndiesMaytober Day 16: I chose to be free on Free Friday so I missed yesterday’s prompt! “Escape From Titan” is closer to publication, so here’s another excerpt This is page 2 (Yes, page 2! It’s “in media res”) “Peekaboo” is 16th century. “Melodrama” I will allow becsuse I like the word!
