This chart showing global electricity sources over time is pretty good evidence that the days of coal and gas are drawing to a close.
Headlines today are more whack than ever, first some bright spark in Yukon managed to associate homelessness with a lack of housing (!), now we have this:
Just built this ski rack Did I solve a problem, or simply confirm that I have one?
Move over Calgary, shit's getting real in Dawson City: After a series of water main ruptures and sewer freezes, the school, the college, the pub had to close, and the town is on a boil water advisory. So, no beer, and no water. Huh. And now:
A sauna is not just a luxury up here.
I think Environment Canada's weather AI is frozen.... It really is minus 39 here this morning, but it absolutely is not smoky!
I'm ashamed that we have to rally again, to protect the Peel, to uphold the treaties. But here we are. Sad and mad.

Is it just me that sees this?
I found the perfect way to while away a very cold evening. Tanning is surprisingly hard work, so it keeps me warm.
A joke by Ugo Bardi (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ugo_Bardi ):
At least in St John New Brunswick, it might not be raining:
There is a certain Hotel California feeling to our local airport
This trail might be rough, but at least it's dry!
Today the Earth reached a very sad milestone when the global mean temperature hit 2 degrees above the pre-industrial base. And our temperature is still going up. Faster and faster.
It was minus 24 last night, so the ice is starting to thicken up. If it really drops to minus 30 on the weekend, as forecast, the river will soon be crossable again.
This one really got me:😢
Huh. Not that I care much one way or the other about the score, but it seems like we have something in common.....
Have you ever read "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children"? It's full of creepy Victorian photos like this.
If today stays just a little colder than forecast, this snow fall might just last until May!
Not everything works. I thought I had brought this habanero inside in time, but it does not look very promising.
I have a lot of luck with gardening; most of the veggies I eat, I have grown. But I struggle with peppers. A donated chile bush has supplied me with a year's worth of heat. But regular red bell peppers? Nah. So to have this one finally get ripe feels like a win!
These are the garlic that I am curing for storage. Almost as many again will be set aside for next year's crop. It's been a bountiful year!
#addMam please! Here are some Northern Mountain Woodland Caribou from the Hart River herd in Yukon, Canada.
These are great! And look what came in the mail!
Last week I was wondering if I jumped the gun by having my snow tires installed. Today, I'm congratulating myself on my prescience.
