I had a great day at The National Archives on Saturday, looking at the MH 12 records - correspondence and papers between the central poor law authorities in London and local Poor Law Unions. I didn’t get through as many documents as usual as they were rather large! #OnePlaceWednesday
Inspired by their ‘tombstone’ prompt, I have written an article for the @sfhs1975.bsky.social FHS journal about how I (probably!) identified the occupant of a grave marked with a (now blank) wooden grave marker in my #OnePlaceStudy #OnePlaceWednesday

This building in #Ramsgate is crying out to be a #OnePlaceStudy! Smack in this instance refers to a type of boat 😉 It housed young apprentices (often as young as 10 from local workhouses) who worked dangerous hours on the town's sailing fishing smacks. Operational 1881-1915. #OnePlaceWednesday

Not quite #OnePlaceCarers (or is it - in a more remote way?!) but I’ve been researching Medical Officers of Health. Luckily for me, the MOoH for Plomesgate (the area covering #Sudbourne) is a distant ancestor. He practiced for an incredible 64 years & was MOfH for 40 of them! #OnePlaceWednesday

The latest blogging/social media prompt #OnePlaceCarers has got me thinking about the short-lived #Sudbourne Hospital. Built by Kenneth Mackenzie Clark in 1905, shortly after he bought the Sudbourne Estate, it became a RedCross Hospital during #WW1 but sadly burned down in 1915 #OnePlaceWednesday
I’m about to download some death certificates for my #Sudbourne #OnePlaceStudy. I order a year a month, & they’re building up into a really good resource. I wonder what insights the 1871 deaths will bring… Sad to think of the grief that these deaths would have brought #OnePlaceWednesday

I’ve been buying some more death certificates for my #Sudbourne #OnePlaceStudy. It’s an unusual cause of death, but not reported in the newspapers, & no mention of an inquest, which is strange. The poor soul was a 3yo girl 😢 I’d have thought that scalding would’ve been the CoD #OnePlaceWednesday

An exciting #OnePlaceWednesday for me - I’m off to the archives! Top of my list is a postcard of my #StreetStudy from 1907😍 The street was built in 1900 & oldest photos I’ve seen of it are from the 60s/70s, & I’ve dreamed of seeing an older photo.
