You could disagree with Goldwater and Reagan but they weren’t in-your-face corrupt, dishonest, self-aggrandizing, and foolhardy. —Garrison Keillor
Even with the help of Rod Serling, Bill Nye, or Will Shorts we would still be unable to decipher the mystery, comprehend the science, or solve the puzzle behind last nights prime time address. We found ourselves entering a new dimension between light and shadow. An area which we call The Trump Zone😳
As Idaho’s population surges, revenue isn’t matching growth, and many EMS agencies are struggling to keep up with rising call volumes, staffing shortages, and stagnant funding, leaving local leaders searching for new ways to pay for emergency medical services.
It was on this day in 1950 that North Korea invaded South Korea, beginning the Korean War. Most of the actual combat occurred in the first year of the war, but it dragged on and on. It was the first war the United States had concluded without success. There were no celebrations when it ended.
Iran has accomplished what America did in 1814, it stood up to British bombardment and survived and so the British withdrew. —Garrison Keillor
Life is better if I skip the front page. I walk around town and it’s all one country, no polarization. The bounty of America has drawn tides of immigrants and if you talk to the shopkeepers and waiters and cabdrivers, you can learn more about the world than from the paper. —Garrison Keillor
The man has won the title of Worst President in American History hands down. In 2029, there will be massive parades across the country and we shall see by the dawn’s early light Air Force One make its last Palm Beach flight as he disappears and we wave goodbye. —Garrison Keillor
I saw an interview with Hillary Clinton last week — the woman is smart, well-spoken, speaks with authority about the Middle East and Ukraine, and is frank, funny, and you think of how the world would be if she had defeated the guy whose name was briefly on the Kennedy Arts Center. —Garrison Keillor
Idaho is one of the few states that does not fund preschool at all. Existing support is funded almost entirely through the federal Child Care Development Fund block grant. New requirements imposed by the state this year have significantly reduced the number of working families receiving assistance.
A 2025 study revealed that 35% of practicing OB-GYNs left the State of Idaho after the 2022 Dobbs decision. Lacking a single training program specializing in obstetrics anywhere in the state, and with a reputation nationwide for criminalizing reproductive care, this shortage is not going away soon.
TAX CUTS FAVOR AFFLUENT IN IDAHO A new report published this month by a Boise-based nonprofit organization found that state and federal income tax cuts have benefited the highest-income Idaho households the most, while low-income families are actually paying more.
Far-right religious activists aligned with Trump want to dictate what we can read, who we can love, what health care we can receive, and most recently, which faith traditions are worthy of recognition by the Pentagon. Faith always loses something sacred when politicians use it as a tool for power.
On this Juneteenth, we commit to redoubling our efforts to preserve the progress achieved thus far on the long road to freedom in the wake of biting, rightest, regressive decisions by the John Roberts court as we continue to pursue the full blessings of liberty for all Americans regardless of race.
The agreement between the U.S. and Iran, negotiated under Obama in 2015 — the very agreement Trump has consistently vilified, lied about, and foolishly abandoned during his first term — included this language: “Under no circumstances will Iran ever seek, develop, or acquire any nuclear weapon”.
The war with Iran failed to achieve regime change, failed to result in a better life for the Iranian people, failed to make the Middle East more stable, failed to make Israel more secure, failed to improve on the agreement negotiated by the Obama administration despite Trump’s false claims.
Trump’s war with Iran caused the deaths of U.S. service members and Iranian civilians, worldwide economic hardship, a more radical regime in Iran, with Tehran realizing that it can open and close the Strait of Hormuz with impunity, using it as a bargaining chip, with the U.S. helpless to stop them.
Trump paints the end of the Iran war in glowing terms, using exaggeration, deception and lies, generous amounts of snake oil, misdirection, obfuscation, sleight of hand, smoke and mirrors, and the put-on charm of a slippery used car salesman — the most pathetic and dangerous charlatan of our age.
Have we progressed beyond the laissez-faire capitalism we read about in our history books or have we regressed to an even more insidious form of abject permissiveness toward amassing wealth and power? One with fewer guardrails to protect the people and no incentives to promote the common good?
The most deeply despised man in America came to New York Monday to see the Knicks play at Madison Square Garden. The bozo who jinxed the Knicks wouldn’t know a cheese grater from the Great Horned Owl. Stay home at Marla Cargo, Don, and do something about the hair. —Garrison Keillor
There is perhaps no greater abomination than the perpetuation of economic injustice and the cavernous gap between rich and poor throughout the world. Those who benefit from this scourge and do nothing to speed its demise share responsibility for the evil it perpetrates in every corner of the globe.
I watched Trump’s Meet The Press interview from the barn in Wisconsin. His responses were full of distortions and lies about the Iran War, the economy, January 6th, the $1.8 billion slush fund, and election fraud. His verbal abuse of Kristen Welker, just prior to storming off camera, was shameful🇺🇸
This caught my attention as we recently visited Eagle Island State Park a couple weeks. Pretty cute little guy 🦫
A Federal Judge is pressing the State of Idaho on enforcement of its new transgender bathroom ban for public and private facilities as ID cards often conform to the holder’s gender preference, DNA testing would require a court order, and the exemption for “dire need” would be impossible to prove.
THE RESEMBLANCE IS UNCANNY… A rare albino buffalo, fondly named after Donald Trump for its distinctive blond tuft, is seen in an enclosure at the national zoological park in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Friday, May 29, 2026. (AP Photo/Rajib Dhar)
Thanks to Pete Hegseth, THE SALVATION ARMY, along with dozens of other faith traditions, is no longer on the officially recognized list of religious affiliations by The United States Department of Defense —a list that was just slashed from 200 to 31 possible religious designations.
Only the twisted, warped, depraved Trump administration would have the gall, the nerve, the shameless audacity to announce the creation of a $1.776 billion slush fund to compensate those who assaulted law enforcement officers January 6 — and this right on the heels of National Police Week.
