Growing tobacco for the first time this year. Hard to start but now that it’s established it’s really vigorous. The NV sun is a bit much for it, partial shade seems to be the thing. #garden #summer #gardening #growyourown
Posting this Great Basin Collared Lizard on World Lizard Day (today). #lizard #worldlizardday
I bought this Jamaican Mushroom 🍄 last year and overwintered it in the house. This was supposed to be Scotch Bonnet but I was a victim of Bonnie’s Peppergate 2025. These don’t get enough love, they’re fruity, smokey, and not too hot. #peppers #gardening #peppergate #scotchbonnet #garden
That’s a GREAT book! Here’s a version rescued from a small-town military library in rural Nevada. A little worse for the wear but not too many of these versions even survived. Thanks for your post! #tolkien #TheHobbit
Cool Cooper’s Hawk (bad pic) in the Harbor Freight parking lot. #birdoftheday #birding #coopershawk
Completed my 33rd book from the Le Monde 100 Books of the Century. I use it as a semi-developmental reading list. It’s a life goal to complete it, the first 33 took me 6 years (plenty of off-list reading too). #reading #book #booksky #literature
Coral Rubble masonry at the George Washington house in Bridgetown Barbados. The original builders used local coral, lime-sand mortar, English brick arrises, and lime plastering. Built with the use of slave-labor ca. 1710. Really cool place to visit. GW rented a room here 1751-1752
#BirdoftheDay #LongBeaks #birdsky #birds Here is a Wilson’s Snipe for Long Beak bird-of-the-day. Taken in Washoe Valley NV.
I’ve been working on my early Jack Londons. It’s a treasure hunt every time I’m at a used bookstore.
Pulled some Jamaican Mushroom peppers from the garden today! These are tasty but SO HOT 🥵
Current inventory of our Little Free Library. I built this 15? years ago for Mother’s day. The library’s getting a lot of use these days. 📚 #library #littlefreelibrary #books #reading
Harvesting perfectly ripe Himrod grapes. The vines are a little over 20 years old and produce prolifically. These are the best grapes I’ve ever tasted. We know fall is here when they’re ripe.
Our small garden has gifted us pounds of Chile de Arbol this season. They’re hotter than I like to eat fresh. Maybe ferment and make hot sauce?
