#OnThisDayInHistory, Scottish explorer Alexander Mackenzie completes the first east-to-west crossing of America north of Mexico in 1793. He makes it to the Pacific Ocean, to make up for an earlier crossing where he ONLY got to the Arctic Ocean. I mean, if you can even call that exploring.

#OnThisDayInHistory, Disneyland opens in 1955. The park, and the mascots are not exactly ready for prime time, but it apparently works out in the end.

#OnThisDayInHistory, Lee Iacocca is fired as Ford's president in 1978. Bloom County has forever warped how I remember Mr. Iacocca. Patriotic tapioca!

In the first panel, Milo, a blond boy with glasses stands next to a box marked "A tribute." He announces, "As a tribute to Lee 'Mr. America' Iacocca, we have a special guest star..." #OnThisDayInHIstory, the US patent is issued for the three-point seatbelt in 1962. That's a seatbelt shot from behind the three-point line, right?
