I spent most of Otakon behind the Discotek booth, which was fun, but unrelenting. Actually, that’s a great way to sum up the weekend. Being able to bring you guys joy is the best feeling in the world. Second best feeling: napping through most of today
We did not lack for amazing artwork to use on this package. Will feature both English and French 5.1 tracks.
For fans of Flow and other recent EU animation, the style will look familiar. An absolutely jaw dropping re-imagining of several Greek myths. It's a must-see.
Announcing... our next Whole Grain Pictures release. An incredible European animated feature from 2022.
TFW you buy an ancient DVD of a junky old OVA (Demon Fighter Kocho) only to see yourself at 21 in footage of the dub premiere party
A fascinating quirk of early US anime VHS releases is how many distributors insisted on subtitling song lyrics with their own writing, often having almost nothing to do with the original meaning or lyrics. Nearly every label did this, and few knew enough Japanese back then to push back.
My trainer makes me fill this out every week, but at least I try to make it entertaining for both of us.
Also, kind of impressive that they used the industry’s obsession with copyright lines as PART OF THE DESIGN
I’m sure I’m far from the only gay dude freshly awakened to the world of yaoi lit, but I can’t with these titles 😂
I made the viral 1000 Slice Apple cake and it’s literally just a pile of apples
I was at an Asian (mostly Chinese) food festival yesterday and they were selling these yoghurt drinks that were very definitely not aimed at children.
Baby’s first convention booth! If you’re at @animelosangeles.bsky.social this weekend, come by! Booth 221. Panel’s Friday at 4:45 in LP2.
Thanks to @dubudavid.bsky.social I am now the proud owner of a period-accurate CD single of Ai no Tenshi. It’s so perfect, even down to the half-assed art direction for a D-list idol group. Is this the first we’re hearing that it’s the theme song for visual novel PC game called High School Memorial?
I’m old enough to remember when every CD had this printed in the booklet. Because even though you clearly own a CD player, you needed the concept explained again.
The comments section, though, is oddly beautiful. Just a flood of kindness, compassion, and vulnerability from strangers.
There’s a YouTube channel that just repeatedly posts quiet, somber mood music with a still image of a moody, desolate street. From what I can tell, most of them are nearly identical. They have titles like “you need to sleep” and “it’s late, go to bed”
It’s weird to think that the entire generation of grandmas who would get those curly, helmet–like perms like a Estelle from Golden Girls have almost entirely departed this mortal plane by now. Much like a floppy disk icon, the iconography has outlived what it represented.
I wish I were better at calligraphy so I could write this on a hachimaki
Ohh fuck there’s a biography coming out in February. I can’t wait. Someone had better option movie rights.
I’m back from Japan, I’m a complete sleep deprived wreck with a sore throat, but I managed to score Scatman John’s insane Japan-only single “Su Su Su Super KIREI” for ¥50 so I am at peace
USPS said I had a package coming in from Japan today. I was expecting a hard drive or master tapes or something…
Okay, maybe I’m reaching here but that font CAN’T be a coincidence
To be fair, I am easily triggered by aggressively bland corporate-speak written by extremely dull people. For example, this sign that was hanging at the satellite uplink facility used by ImaginAsianTV
