I've been watching this storm from the kitchen window for the past hour or so, it's been a great lightning producer. On the 3D radar view from malpais.app, you can clearly see how multiple updrafts are feeding the same stratiform layer. Really neat. #nmwx

I was running a time lapse video of Mt Taylor to catch the onset of orographic convection when I got this dust devil.
It’s the start of another clear day in NM, with this sunrise over Mt Taylor.

It's new feature Friday for malpais.app! You can now look at the last 5-30 minutes of GLM lightning flash locations as an overlay. It's useful for assessing storm intensity trends and motion at a glance. Just go to the Fire/Lightning tab on the left and click the Enable toggle under Lightning.
Now we're getting good downdrafts from the weak stuff W of Milan (so now we're downwind of Homestake, yay!). At the airport, 10m gusts of 38 knots, we measured peak gusts of 26 mph
Nice cross-section on the RHI view, good reflectivity core, echo top around 10 km. (If anyone has advice on building a good PPI with a L2 file in SAILS mode, I'm happy to listen)
Some dime size hail in Grants just now. Looking at malpais.app, it looks like the reflectivity core was just to our north. #nmwx
If wildfires are your area of concern, malpais.app has more features for you. In addition to the RAWS data, we have incidents and perimeter data from WFIGS so you can know where the current fires are. malpais also includes federal agency/tribal jurisdiction boundaries.
Of course, once one has surface observations, one would like to analyze them. You can use objective analysis techniques (Barnes/OI/Cressman) for temperature, dewpoint, winds, RH, and altimeter. We have even have streamlines available for winds. (3/x)
You have the ability to plot current METARS courtesy of AWC and/or the current RAWS. At high levels, RAWS are colored by RH, and METARS are flight conditions. Once you zoom in, the station model appears and if you click on the station, a detailed popup appears. (2/x)
With TS #arthur, now is a good time to announce some new features for malpais.app, my Nexrad viewer app. You can now load current surface obs (METAR/RAWS), plot the objective analysis of T/Td/RH/altimeter/winds, and for the wildfire monitors, we have incident locations/perimeters. (1/x)
