Steve X-Men Comics
@xmencomicssteve
Boxes and boxes of X-Men and X-adjacent comics. Collecting since 1986, chasing all the X-books - getting close to the finish line. Favs are both Wolverines, Storm, Nightcrawler, Kitty Pryde. Also weird 80’s indie comics. Also cooking/recipe shares.
Periodic boost of one of my fav podcasts: The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of (movie/tv props) Anyone going to SDCC: 1) they announced a live podcast ep Saturday 5 pm w/Todd McFarlane 2) Ryan (show runner, House of the Dragon) said there’ll be a (semi) secret showing of unreleased HotD episode at SDCC
Here’s the Table of Contents in case you were curious. Pretty crazy list of artists who participated.
Somehow missed this post, very fun to read. Did you happen to pick up the 2020 Len Wein tribute to GSX1 - the one that had 37 diff artists each draw pages of the book? It’s so cool to look through.
Just for fun, cause you don’t have enough comments here to read right?, my 2nd fav Wytches #1 variant - by Sean Murphy
Great choice - finally have one you post (no sig). For #TopShelfFriday I’m going with Wytches #1 D cover variant (2014) the New York Comic Con exclusive by Dustin Nguyen Got it when it came out, after my Big Comic Break, introduced me to the current indie horror/supernatural comics I love
The 40th anniversary of my starting to collect comics didn’t register until this very moment, seeing the post below. Summer 1986 was kickass timing! Got those 4 comics and more. Reposting (bad) pic of my first comics, many off 7-11 spinner racks or at B Dalton bookstore (of course at the mall)
Made Pumpkin Cookies yesterday, know I’m a little early. Sharing recipe I found b/c it’s an excellent springy/cake-like cookie: www.allrecipes.com/recipe/10033... Instead of icing, sprinkled formed cookies w/bit of sugar mixed w/chai spice before baking + powdered sugar after cooled.
Going through pics looking for something, ran across these Blackthorne Publishing ads. There’s a special place in my comic-collecting heart for those 80’s indie B&W series, the weirder the better! Full runs of Hamsters, Kangaroos and Chameleons.
I missed the St . Bernardus Christmas Ale, since it was hiding with these others! Such a good beer.
Knew I had a pic of when I went through a bit of a Belgian Noel stage:
The best! At one point I tracked down as many as I could find. Even took a group pic. Some of my favorite movies growing up.
When someone mentions Krull on here I am required by law to post the Marvel movie adaptation comics.
It has to be very, very obvious for me to notice a new costume…
Sweet book, such a cool cover. Since yesterday was anniversary of first X-Men comic and tomorrow’s the 4th, combined my #TopShelfFriday book is Uncanny X-Men #4 (1964) First Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, here’s hoping the X-MCU brings them back into the mutant fold!
This should be the new flagship ad for the World Cup from now into eternity. (just happened now)
Somewhat related, the X-Men went with the more lucrative Drakes Cakes offer! I was a little disappointed it wasn’t a quest to find/save cosmic pastries.
Mutant twins practically! Me too, I love those four. And 206 cover hits so hard. And I love that UK Secret Wars comic. I luckily picked up this one from a dealer who set it aside for me. And those 1990’s UK Annuals are some of the hardest things (for me) to pick up across the pond.
Love it! For me it was this comic (still have it) I got in a B Dalton Bookstore in the mall in 1986. Started the whole collection. The cover just called to me, and I gave up 3 arcade game plays to take it home.
Happy 63rd birthday to the X-Men!!! On this day in 1963 Uncanny X-Men #1 hit the stands. Here are the 3 copies of the book I’ve had in the collection over the years (still have the nicest one). And an Original Art page (not mine!) for UXM1 I saw in a Marvel exhibit in 2019. #xmen #xmencomics
Made Kimchi Jjigae with tofu for dinner tonight 🍜🍽️ #homecooking So much flavor packed into a pretty straightforward dish. I know it traditionally includes meat, but it’s my fav vehicle for tofu.
Happy Canada Day! Besides visiting quite a few times, I lived in Ottawa for 4 yrs as a very young child in the 70’s. All I kind of maybe remember are snowplows and butterflies. Here are some comics in honor of the Day. Hope we’ll be better neighbors to you very soon.
And here’s my Comics on the Big and Small Screen: lots to look at here. Not easy to ID, though I spotted a sweet very 90’s Wolverine t-shirt The site Filmoblivion says the shop it was filmed in, long since closed, was in Hollywood and called Fantastic Store
Watching this since hey, a comic shop and good top billing: Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper Cue opening credits, my jaw drops with each new name: Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Christoper Walken, Samuel L Jackson, James Gandolfini, Chris Penn. And Bronson Pinchot iykyk
Same issue, was def not ready for Hot Toad when… (spoiler alert) mutants all around the world lost their powers. So this is canon, then. Why doesn’t Toad talk about this constantly - showing pics to everyone who’ll listen, and most who won’t? #HotToad
Read through update: X-Men playing baseball again, in Uncanny X-Men #379 (2000). Wish I had taken baseball panel pics starting with the Claremont Run, that’d be fun to have as a thread. If you’re a fan, hope your team’s doing well and that Tommy John guy hasn’t visited yet.
In order to finish off leftover dried apricots, tonight I deviated and made an Apricot Soda Bread 🍜 #homecooking Not a big apricot fan, surprised how much I enjoyed it. Def going to make it again.
