Here’s Mike McGuire doing his auctioneer duty with his son. Mike was president of the student council here when he was in high school, then was the youngest ever Healdsburg City Council member. Now President Pro Tem of the Senate, running for US Congress. He has my vote.

Went to the annual Wine Country to the Rescue fundraiser. The event begins with the presentation of the colors and then the President of the California Senate (a local boy!) is the auctioneer. The event raises close to $1m a year.

I got 50 fruits from my two trees last year and this year will double or triple that. I make a mean pomegranate chutney out of them, serve it with curried beans (using South Indian masala mixes and Andhra red chilis plus curry leaves).

The Servants of Knowledge presented a computer with 20,000 science books to the Science Gallery Bengaluru, which will place it in their library for public access. ht @omshivaprakash.bsky.social

Putting a Mac mini, an Oyen U34 8b drive, and a 14.5”x4.6” touchscreen monitor on the wall over the basement stairs. Will be a home media server … calibre and invenio for books, roon for audio, and vlc, plex, jellyfin, etc. for video.

The wall over the basement stairs has water, electric, gas pipes going all over. A 50 amp breakout box with a big box of science magnet on it. The Mac mini external disk is a Small box but it has a “this machine kills facists label on it.

The 15 kilos box has been deboxed into 80 spice jars and 70 deli containers, all labeled and sealed. Shipping some to legal clinics and lawyers who represent me, the rest I’m bringing to some Watch Duty events, where I’m an advisor, so thought it was appropriate to bring some fire with me.

54 small spice jars, each with the great seal of the seal of approval. Includes 20 jars of my homemade herbal masala.

Pomegranates going to be plentiful this year! I grind the seeds, add chili, tamarind, beets (so it stays red), chilis, and sesame seeds to make a chutney.

Friend of mine needed a bluetooth mouse, so I rooted around in the bin and said "aha" and hauled out Logitech M510, which I later determined I had purchased July 20, 2011. This will do nicely, waste not, want not.

Curried Scarlet Runner beans. Beans from Rancho Gordo in Napa. Friend from Fiji brought Fiji special meat masala. Guanciali from Journeyman's, chicken stock from a friend up Fitch Mountain, mushrooms from Sebastopol, curry paste from Andhra Pradesh. 2 heads of garlic, one big onion. Wait 3 hours.

Beginning to hang and dry herbs. Starting with marjoram and sage. I have 4 of these racks, so it’s going to smell really great in there. Oregano and lavender up next.

A wood ceiling has a wire rack hanging from it. On it are 8 bunches of marjoram and 4 of sage tied with string. Behind the rack is a large commercial refrigerator full of drinks and pickles with “big box of science” magnet on it. The wall is full of photos of Thai markets.

At Gate Number 1 of the Karnataka High Court, here to meet Hon’ble Justice Yadav. My instructions are “please call when you get here, we will send police or our Gunman to get you.”

Tue main gate to Karnataka High Court is closed, the sign reads that only vehicles of Hon’ble judges allowed. A smaller gate is guarded by police and only those with pass are allowed through.

Public libraries played a vital role in the fight for the liberation of India. But, has the Internet made them irrelevant? In this talk on the 125th anniversary of the venerable Bangalore Club library, two of the founders of the Servants of Knowledge will argue that libraries are not only relevant in our modern world, they form the bedrock of democracy, education, and economic opportunity. In the context of post-colonial countries, libraries serve as vital democratic institutions that promote constitutional values including equality, and empower citizens to participate actively in political and cultural deliberations. In this talk Lawrence Liang and Carl Malamud will discuss their efforts at the Servants of Knowledge to create a public library of over 6 lakh books plus over 6 lakh issues of the Official Gazettes of India.

February is when the really crazy good Andhra Pradesh red chilis are ready. The fresh ones have limited shelf life, but they pickle up like omg you wouldn't believe, and the pickles have a long shelf life. I just placed an order for 25kg of pickles. These are blow your head off hot, but very tasty.

A dozen jars of pickles from India in my fridge from the last batch. These are 4-oz jars, each has the great seal of the seal of approval on them. The "very red chutney" is related to the Andhra Pradesh Red Chili Pickle, but isn't quite a hot.

As you enter the court you see a large picture of Gandhi with the iconic quote. I couldn’t help myself … turned to the court official, a Deputy Registrar, and said “you know, Gandhi never said that?” This is true … he didn’t. It was in a biography about him, he never said it.

Had a spectacular visit to the Supreme Court last week. Got VIP treatment through security, spent two hours with the Chief Librarian and a Deputy Registrar.

In my second week in India for this trip. My hotel is in the middle of a 20-acre rain forest with 50 species of butterflies. Also, five minute walk to our scan center in Gandhi Bhavan. My last trip of the year … doing 93 nights in this hotel in 2024.
