Well, I fell off the various writer prompts/world building things I was doing this month, mainly because I got distracted by the release of the game book at my Patreon. Sorry for those that were interested, but a lot of that is in my content at FVS anyway. Here's a meme.

This is a snippet from Purity's Penance, the second Pam Purity book. It's her getting her personal "uniform" back after some time without it.

It's been a minute since I shared the cover of Purity of Purpose, by @penofgwen.bsky.social. When she showed me the concept for this, I had questions, but as I watched it unfold, they evaporated. I love the elements she's included here as nods to the character. Find this at FVs, link in bio.

There are a fair number of intense scenes in the Pam Purity books, but I think this one might involve some of the most tension.

feel blood flowing into our boot. “You may see infinite options arrayed before you, but it is the infinity
constrained between one and two.”
“What is a Duelist if not a weapon, Pam? Was that not also one of your lessons?”
This time, as he leans into his speed, we must follow outside the amber-drenched chug of objective time
to match him. We can’t answer, as it takes everything we have to stay one beat ahead of his attacks.
He’s not trying to wound, anymore.
Finally, we both slow, and circle for a beat before closing once again. We feel steel slide through our side
as we use crossed pistols to redirect the shot intended for the throat. It’s comparatively cold as it parts
tissue and spills blood. The edge scrapes against bone, vibrating through ribs.
“A Duelist is a tool, Sook,” we say. “To what purpose that tool is bent depends on whether we accept
the hand of another or guide it ourselves.”
The tip of the knife tickles against lung tissue, and then stops. Sook freezes, keeping just enough
pressure on his weapons to hold the momentary deadlock. At the moment, our ability to breathe easily
depends entirely on whether he can see the Path beyond where he’s been told it ends.

So, mainly I've been working on game dev content, with only a little bit of fiction writing thrown in around the edges. Currently trying to get the Platinum and Plasma core rule book polished and ready for release. Here's a snippet from it, including the word "out."

Mechanic. The galaxy is an inhospitable place, and machinery breaks down. A Mechanic is an essential part of any crew. Text that reads, "I'm going to give feedback post-by-post, but I wanted to start with feedback of Purity of Purpose as a whole, too, for anybody curious scoping those who have gone before, as well as for the edification of a most worthy author.
You could read this novel as a popcorn-fiction experience. You don't wait long to see the apparent main questions of the plot: Will Pam arrive in time? What is going on with this duel? --and then you're finding yourself observing, "That was a pretty short chapter, I have time for another one" until something reminds you of the inexorable march of time outside of Pam's quest. Cinematic action, a beautiful balance between setting and plot propulsion, stakes that just keep rising, a character that consistently reveals herself throughout.
You *could* read it that way, but would you eat a lasagna and only acknowledge the [admittedly awesome] surface layer? The dystopia of the Pamverse is nuanced and telling on various aspects of ours, as in all good sci-fi. The factions, the shifting and movements of Power, the ways the moons that are the mighty impact the tides of those far from the light of the surface of society.
And then there's the sheer Pam-ness of Pam f---ing Purity, the mannerisms, the one-liners, the you-can-absolutely-count-on-it self belief.
In the end, enjoy it as popcorn if that's your preference and you can sail over the depths comfortably. But you might find yourself with a much more satisfying satiation than anticipated."

Last one for today. The Pilot. Pilots are essential across settled space, whether it's guiding huge transports or dogfighting pirates in orbital fighters. Certification as a Pilot is a ticket to work on any world or system. No one is cooler under pressure than the Pilot making them clutch allies.

The Soldier. No matter what Era of play you're in, the Soldier is always a valuable ally. They comprise the majority of House navies and armies, planetary and system Security Forces, pirate fleets, mercenary companies, and private security. Soldiers are known to shrug off serious damage. 6/?

The Gambler. Gamblers are experts at living on the wrong side of the law. Whether it's in cards, dice, or contraband acquisition and smuggling, the Gambler has the edge. It's dangerous to assume one knows what's up a Gambler's sleeve. They shine when it's most shadowy. 5/?

Next up, the Diplomat. Diplomats often end up as House functionaries, but just as regularly filter into suitable roles such as investigators, marketers, or matchmakers. They shine in negotiations, especially if they've had enough time to gather intel on their opponents ahead of time. 4/?
