I used to look at these simple little recipes and go "wow, something cheap and easy to make!" And now I'm like "damn, this is gonna be like 20 bucks to make biscuit dough."

Buttermilk biscuit recipe

Prep time: 15 minutes
Bake time: 20 minutes

2 cups all purpose flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
3/4 cup buttermilk

1. Heat oven to 425°F. Use an ungreased baking sheet.
2. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and shortening in a food processor. Pulse the flour mixture for 5 to 10 seconds or until it looks like coarse crumbs.
3. Add the cold buttermilk, and pulse the biscuit dough for 5 to 10 seconds. Do not over mix or knead the dough.
4. Sprinkle 1 Tablespoon of flour on a work surface and gently roll out the dough. Cut the dough into biscuits 1 or 2 inches in diameter. Gently press the remaining dough scraps into round biscuits the same size.
5. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes.

Makes: 12 biscuits
